What's new, Kat? Katharine McPhee has kept an extremely low profile over the past two weeks, but the actress and singer, 29, finally resurfaced on Monday, Nov. 4 at a pal's house in Los Angeles. Keeping it super-simple and casual, the American Idol alum wore a black top, skinny jeans and booties and flashed a tight small, keeping her familiar face somewhat covered with sunglasses, and wearing her brown hair down.
McPhee's quiet demeanor is understandable: After all, on Oct. 20, in now-infamous photos, she was snapped making out with Michael Morris, the married director of her canceled NBC series, Smash. Although McPhee and husband Nick Cokas separated about six months ago, Morris' marital situation was more complicated: Married to Welcome to the Family actress Mary McCormack for 10 years (with kids Margaret, 9, Rose, 6, and Lillian, 2), the director's betrayal took McCormack by surprise.
"They hadn't been in a great place," one source told Us Weekly. "but Mary thought it was just a rut. This is devastating." Although McCormack briefly kicked Morris out of the family home — he vainly attempted to buy the incriminating photos before they went online — the spouses were photographed together last week.
Which is probably just fine with McPhee. "Kat likes Michael, but it's just a fling for her," another source says, adding that she's "so embarrassed" by the photos. "She should have known better."
