Kristin Cavallari Says She’s ‘Found Peace’ a Year After Brother’s Death

One year after the death of her brother, Michael Cavallari, Kristin Cavallari tells Us Weekly she has “found peace … knowing that [she] will see him again.” The TV personality revealed to Us at Young Living Essential Oils’ Lavender Room, that she takes comfort from feeling her brother’s presence.

“We’ve had a lot of signs that are so powerful that it’s hard to argue. It’s hard to argue them that they aren’t from him,” the Laguna Beach alum explained. “It’s cool to still feel his presence, and to know that he’s around and he’s watching over us.”

The 29-year-old penned a heartfelt Instagram post in honor of her late brother, 30, who passed away from hypothermia in November 2015 after a car crash in Grand County, Utah. His death was ruled an accident in February, and a memorial service for Michael was held this past June. “My brother’s birthday was June 11, and so my family — my mom, my stepdad, my dad, Jay and I — all went out to Utah where he was found,” the former reality star previously told Us about the emotional gathering. “And we put a little plaque in the rock where he was found and had our own sort of service for him. … It was more of a celebration.”

Cavallari, who has three kids with her Chicago Bears Quarterback husband Jay Cutler — Camden, 4, Jaxon, 2 and Saylor, 13 months — says her kids “don’t really understand” the death of their uncle. “I think in a few years when they’re a little bit older, I’ll really kind of explain it to them. They’re still young,” she says.

For now, the Balancing in Heels author is looking forward to enjoying the holidays with her kids. “This year we decided we’re going to do just us as a family,” she tells Us. “I’ll probably make gnocchi, that’s kind of becoming a tradition. I picture a fireplace going. I picture the kids laughing and having fun, but I’m sure it won’t actually be like that. That’s my idea.” Picture perfect.
