Things are looking up in the new year! Lamar Odom’s aunt JaNean Mercer told Us Weekly in a statement released Friday, January 8, that the former NBA star is on the road to recovery after finally leaving the hospital earlier in the week.

“Lamar continues to make remarkable strides and we are asking that you continue to respect our privacy,” Mercer, Odom’s maternal aunt, said in the statement. “Again we thank all of you greatly, your support has been paramount in helping to uplift us during these past few difficult months.”

As Us Weekly exclusively reported, Khloé Kardashian secretly moved Odom, 36, to a private facility near her Calabasas, California, home on Wednesday, January 6. It will serve as a rehab for the recovering athlete.

According to a source, the move was made quickly and without notifying anyone, even Odom’s family, in order avoid unwanted attention.

“Lamar is good,” the Kocktails With Khloé star, 31, told reporters during her new talk show’s panel at the Television Critics Association’s winter tour that same day. “I’m just there to support and care for him. But he is doing amazing and I’m so proud of the strength that he has to fight this battle that’s his battle, and I’m so grateful for everybody’s love and concern because I think it is coming from a good place.”

Odom checked into Cedars-Sinai hospital back in October 2015, shortly after he was discovered unconscious at a legal brothel in Nevada.

Kardashian’s estranged husband spent the holidays with his kids, Lamar Odom Jr., 13, and Destiny, 17, in his hospital room.

“Lamar is doing way better. He was so happy the kids were there with him for Christmas and they were so happy to be with him,” a source told Us Weekly at the time. “The kids were happy … to bring him gifts, all of his favorite things that they wrapped up. They had so much fun. It was very emotional and very happy."
