It's been six months since they reunited, and Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth seem happier than ever in their rekindled romance. Now the Hunger Games star is talking about their 2013 split and says in a new interview that it actually helped their relationship.
"Of course it was hard, man," the Aussie actor, 26, said in the cover story for GQ Australia's June/July issue. "But we were both going in different directions and it's just what needed to happen. We were both superyoung and it was a good decision at the time — we both needed that."
Since the pair reunited in December, Cyrus has been spotted hanging out with his family, including brother Chris, in Australia, and she's been wearing the engagement ring Hemsworth gave her in 2012. When asked about their status, he told GQ, "People will figure it out. They already have. … They're not dumb."
It's been a bumpy road for the couple, who met and fell fast on the set of the 2010 film The Last Song.
"I guess when I feel something, then I just feel it and I go for it," Hemsworth told GQ. "I make my decisions about what's going to make me happy, what I think is right and what I want to do — and I don't worry too much outside of that."
As Us Weekly reported earlier this month, the "Wrecking Ball" singer and the Independence Day: Resurgence hunk are planning to exchange vows in his native Australia.
During a late-April trip to visit Hemsworth's family in Byron Bay, "they were discussing potential venues and looking around," an insider told Us at the time.
