Miley Cyrus
Disney Channel success story Miley Cyrus was born into a Nashville showbiz family in 1992. Her father, Grammy-nominated country performer Billy Ray Cyrus, has sold more than 20 million records and appeared on the TV series Doc from 2001 to 2004. Her mother, Tish Cyrus, serves as her co-manager and owns a production company. Miley’s godmother, Dolly Parton, is also a major inspiration for her musically and siblings Noah, Brandi, Braison and Trace are also involved in the industry.
Miley first appeared alongside her dad on the small screen in Doc before auditioning for Hannah Montana at the age of 12, though Disney execs considered her too young for the title role. She was extended the offer two years later and starred in the series from 2006 to 2011. Her Disney persona extended into pop-rock albums Meet Miley Cyrus (2007) and Breakout (2007), which both went No. 1.
Hoping to break free from the Disney Channel image, Miley released her transitional album, Can’t Be Tamed, in 2010. During this time, she met Liam Hemsworth while costarring in the film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ book The Last Song. The on-again, off-again couple got engaged in 2012 but split shortly after the release of Miley’s 2013 album, Bangerz. She and Hemsworth resumed their engagement in January 2016.
Miley released her sixth studio album, Younger Now, in September 2017. She and Hemsworth finally tied the knot at their home in the Nashville area in December 2018. Less than eight months later, however, the twosome called it quits. Their divorce was finalized in 2020.
The breakup inspired Miley’s 2019 single “Slide Away” and she later stepped into the rock genre with her 2020 album, Plastic Hearts. Miley has garnered attention for her covers of rock classics like “Heart of Glass” and “Zombie.”
Miley released her eighth studio album, Endless Summer Vacation, in 2023. Its lead single, “Flowers,” became her longest-running No. 1 in the U.S. Her documentary special, Backyard Sessions, was released on Disney+ to accompany the album.
After splitting from Hemsworth, Miley was linked to both Kaitlynn Carter and Cody Simpson in 2019. She broke up with Simpson in 2020 before moving on with Maxx Morando in 2021.
