Miley Cyrus is ushering in a new era.

The “Wrecking Ball” singer, 33, dropped “Cyrus” from her social media handles on Monday, August 31, becoming just “Miley.” Additionally, she took to Instagram to share two red-and-black photos of herself, one of which featured the caption, “MILEY.”

The social media change comes one month after Cyrus signed with Atlantic Records after five years with Sony Music’s Columbia Records, which released her albums Endless Summer Vacation (2023) and Something Beautiful (2025). The former contained her hit single “Flowers,” which earned Cyrus her first Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance in 2024.

Before Columbia, Cyrus worked with Sony’s RCA Records, on which she released her albums Bangerz (2013), Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz (2015), Younger Now (2017) and Plastic Hearts (2020).

Last month, Cyrus teased that she had started working on her 10th studio album, which will center on a “love story.”

“This album is a love story, but love stories are never one-dimensional,” she told actress Daryl Hannah in an interview for Wonderland. “They’re always layered. There is definitely a romantic thread weaving through it because, like all my records, it’s a reflection of where I am in my life.”

Cyrus, who is engaged to musician Maxx Morando, noted that the project “feels especially meaningful because this feeling has stayed with me through multiple eras.”

She added, “That’s something I hadn’t really experienced before. A peaceful kind of love has become a theme across my last three records.”

Cyrus and Morando, 27, began dating in 2021 after meeting on a blind date. The couple got engaged during a trip to Japan, Us confirmed in December 2025.

“We were in Kyoto, Japan. For some reason, you’ll find this as crazy as I did, she’d never been to Japan before. Neither had I, and we’d both wanted to go for a really long time,” Morando told Wonderland. “There were talks before we went about me popping the question, but I was trying to keep it secret. She was not trying to keep it a secret, if you know what I mean.”

He continued, “I had to be really sneaky about it. We went to Tokyo first for a couple days and then on to Kyoto. I think she had a sense that it was coming, so I was waiting until the very last moment of the very last day to throw her off the scent as much as I could.”

Morando said he invited Cyrus on a walk alongside the exterior of their hotel, where he popped the question.

“There was this little outer garden that you had to cross a plank to get over. There was a sign that said you couldn’t cross. I was like, ‘That’s crazy, let’s go over there,’” he quipped. “She’s like, ‘No, it’s blocked.’ Eventually, I persuaded her. We walked in, and it was a little dead end, this beautiful Japanese forest-y situation. She was taking videos and was turned away. That’s when I got on one knee and tapped her on the shoulder.”

Cyrus told the outlet that she not only found love with another person, but also herself.

“That’s probably been the biggest evolution. Once your relationship with yourself changes, every relationship around you changes too. I think this record celebrates both of those equally,” she said, adding that love is “dynamic and complex.”

“It’s something we can feel deeply with our hearts even if we can’t always explain it with our minds,” she concluded. “To me, love isn’t something we have to intellectualize. It’s a cellular understanding.”

Cyrus has yet to share a release date for her upcoming music.
