Did Liam Hemsworth take a wrecking ball to his romance with Miley Cyrus by going after another woman behind her back? It certainly couldn't have helped matters. As revealed in the Sept. 23 issue of Us Weekly, the Hunger Games star, 23, was pursuing Mad Men's January Jones as his relationship with his 20-year-old fiancee dissolved in recent months. (A rep for the "We Can't Stop" singer confirmed on Monday, Sept. 16, that the couple had called off their engagement.)
"January thinks Liam is so sexy," a pal told Us of Jones, 35, a single mom to son Xander, 2. And the feeling is clearly mutual: Earlier this summer, the clean-cut Paranoia star sent Jones a graphic, sexual text message. "I want to [expletive] you," it read, in part.
The blonde beauty, whose exes include Ashton Kutcher and Jason Sudeikis, was first linked with Cyrus' fiance in February, when the two were spotted leaving West Hollywood hotspot Chateau Marmont together. A source told Us they were "all over each other" at a house party that night, though Hemsworth later denied to his love of three years that anything had happened.
Secretly, however, he continued to reach out to Jones, one insider revealed to Us, noting that he complained to her about Cyrus' rebellious behavior. "January consoled him," the source shared. (A rep for the Mad Men star said, "This is absolutely untrue.")
Cyrus, for her part, denied that she and her former costar (in 2010's The Last Song) were having problems. She also made a point of wearing her 3.5-carat engagement ring, even as she and Hemsworth went weeks without being photographed together.
"Miley doesn't want to believe there could be anyone else," a pal told Us of the Hannah Montana alum, who has been busy promoting her new album, Bangerz.
Prior to their split, Cyrus and Hemsworth had been dating off and on for three years. They got engaged in May 2012.
