Miley Cyrus is still figuring out who she wants to be — and the provocative pop star would like the public to give her a pass in the process. During a recent interview with the Associated Press, the "See You Again" singer said it's been tough transitioning from a Disney Channel child star into an adult musician.
"I think people forget what it feels like to be 20," Cyrus said. "People just evolve and that's all that's happened to me. But people think a mad scientist somehow cooked up this potion and turned me in to a different human, which it wasn't. All I did was get a haircut and buy some clothes and everyone thinks that I am made into a robot that changes with what's popular every 10 years."
In fact, Cyrus — known for her provocative outfits and love of twerking — said she believes acting out is part of growing up. "I think some people kind of fall off and they end up going crazy because you don't give yourself time to go crazy," she explained. "That's what you're supposed to do; you are 20, you are supposed to be a mess because you haven't figured it out yet, and 10 years from now I am supposed to have it all together."
Cyrus — who appears to be back on with her fiance, Australian actor Liam Hemsworth — is gearing up for the release of her fourth studio album, due this fall. Her latest single, "We Can't Stop," is currently No. 2 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart; the track's out-there video has been viewed on Vevo more than 109 million times.
