Norman Reedus Warns ‘Walking Dead’ Fans to ‘Bring a Blankie’ for ‘Heavy’ Season Premiere

Don’t say you haven’t been warned. Norman Reedus said Walking Dead fans should brace themselves for a shocker of a season premiere on Sunday, October 23.

“Without a doubt,” Reedus, 47, told the New York Daily News of whether or not fans can expect the unexpected. “Bring a blankie, hold the hand of someone you care about. It’s a heavy episode.”

The end of last season showed baseball bat–wielding Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) smashing in the skull of a mystery character, and fans have speculated that it might be Reedus’ beloved Daryl Dixon, and the questions have driven the actor “a bit crazy,” he said.

“It’s been like that since we started the show seven years ago — people asking, ‘What happens next week?’ They’ve always asked that,” he said.

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Reedus revealed how he’d like his character to go — if and when he does.

“I’d like him to just walk away and just walk away into the woods, and people go, ‘Where the heck is that guy?’” he said. “It’s like, ‘Oh, he gets shot.’ ‘Oh, he turns into a zombie.’ ‘They put him down.’ We’ve seen all of that happen so many times. I think with Daryl, because he came in that way, I think he should go out that way. He should just walk away, and people are like, ‘Whatever happened to him?’ Nobody knows. He’s like the Outlaw Josey Wales or some s–t.”

Regardless of which unlucky character will get the shaft on Sunday’s episode, however, Reedus says bidding farewell to a costar is never an easy task.

“It’s hard,” he told ComicBook.com. “It’s hard always to say goodbye to people on the show. Some characters it’s harder to say goodbye to than others. They’re all good friends of ours. It’s always hard but when it’s certain characters, it’s really hard.”

The Walking Dead airs on AMC Sundays at 9 p.m. ET.
