The cast of Dancing With the Stars season 35 brought the thrills during Horror Movie Night — but the real scare came with the shocking double elimination.
Since nobody was sent home during Dedication Night, the remaining couples’ scores from Tuesday, October 27, were combined with what they earned the week before.
Julia Stiles and Ezra Sosa kicked off the night with their performance of an Argentine tango, which was inspired by The Omen. Guest judge Shirley Ballas focused on technique, saying Stiles needed “sharper, controlled legs.” Meanwhile, Carrie Anna Inaba said that the Save the Last Dance actress appeared more “tense” than in past weeks.
The judges praised Harry Shum Jr. and Jenna Johnson’s performance, with Bruno Tonioli saying that the entire number by “perfection.” Ballas added that she’s “never seen anything quite like that.” The couple then made history by receiving the first perfect score of the season.
Another couple that impressed the judges was Jenna Dewan and Val Chmerkovskiy, with Derek Hough giving a standing ovation and saying, “That was one of the best Argentine tangos I’ve ever seen on this floor.” While the judges noted that Dewan did trip on her dress, they applauded her recovery and overall performance.
After plenty of spooks and scares, Maura Higgins and Mark Ballas gave the final performance of the night, which was inspired by The Lost Boys. All of the judges praised Higgins for being a “phenomenal performer,” and Shirley — Mark’s mom — brought out her iconic tiny shoes to show Higgins how to move her feet in order to fully pivot.
By the end of the night, Tyler Cameron and Sharna Burgess bid the ballroom farewell, as did Jackson Olson and Emma Slater.
Both pairs seemed disappointed by their eliminations. Olson said that he had wanted to be on the show since last year and the “journey has been amazing,” while Cameron said he felt that he let Burgess down.
