Val Chmerkovskiy is a Ukrainian-American ballroom dancer and choreographer best known for his work as a professional dancer on Dancing With the Stars. Chmerkovskiy was born in Odesa, Ukraine, and moved with his family to the United States as a child. He grew up in Brooklyn, New York, where he began dancing at age 7 and later competed in ballroom dancing with his older brother, Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

Chmerkovskiy joined Dancing With the Stars as a professional dancer in 2011. He quickly became one of the show’s most recognizable pros and has partnered with celebrities including Zendaya, Rumer Willis, Laurie Hernandez and Xochitl Gomez.

Chmerkovskiy has won the mirrorball trophy three times, alongside Willis in season 20, Hernandez in season 23 and Gomez in season 32. He has also worked as a choreographer and producer and owns nine dance studios across the US with his brother.

Chmerkovskiy began dating Jenna Johnson in 2017, and the couple tied the knot in April 2022. They welcomed their first child, son Rome, in 2023.
