Born in Sofia, Bulgaria, on January 9, 1989, actress Nina Dobrev is best-known for her roles on Degrassi: The Next Generation and The Vampire Diaries.
At the age of 2, Dobrev and her family relocated to Canada, where she attended J. B. Tyrrell Sr. Public School and Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts in Scarborough, Ontario. She later attended Ryerson University in Toronto, where she majored in sociology. In 2008, she left school to pursue a full-time acting career.
After portraying Mia Jones on Degrassi for three years, Dobrev landed several small TV roles before breaking into the American market with 2008’s American Mall, a Nickelodeon film in the vein of High School Musical. The following year, Dobrev was cast as a lead on The CW’s The Vampire Diaries, opposite Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley.
Dobrev and Somerhalder began quietly dating in 2010 and split three years later in May 2013. The Canada-raised star left TVD in 2015, only to return for the series finale in 2017. She then starred in Run This Town, Dog Days and the short-lived series Fam.
Us Weekly broke the news in April 2020 that Dobrev is dating Olympian Shaun White after sparking romance rumors in February, when the pair posted similar photos from a trip to South Africa. In May 2020, Us confirmed that the actress and snowboarder were living together amid the coronavirus pandemic.
