Bless you, Tay Swift. Taylor Swift released her latest song "Out of the Woods" off her upcoming album 1989 on Tuesday, Oct. 14. The instant hit, which features fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff, immediately went to No. 1 on iTunes. And, per usual, left listeners deciphering the lyrics — leading many sleuths to conclude that the uptempo track is about One Direction's Harry Styles.
Check out 3 key lyrics that all point to her famous ex:
1. Last December
Swift's previous "Last December" reference was back in 2011 when she released "Back to December" from her third album about ex Taylor Lautner. This time, however, the lyric could be describing when she and the British crooner split for good. "Looking at it now/Last December, we were built to fall apart/Then fall back together," she sings in "Out of the Woods." As previously reported, the former lovebirds called it quits during a vacation on Virgin Gorda during New Year's. "They had a fight," and Styles "said something he shouldn't have," a source told Us at the time. "This [breakup] is definitely going to be for good."
2. Plane Necklace
The bling says it all! Swift croons about a plane necklace that Styles has been photographed wearing on numerous occasions and that Swift has borrowed before. "Your necklace hanging from my neck/The night we couldn't quite forget/When we decided/To move the furniture so we could dance," she sings. "Baby, like we stood a chance/Two paper airplanes flying, flying…"
3. Accident Details
Swift only recently revealed in her Rolling Stone cover issue that she and Styles once were involved in a snowmobile accident while they dated. In "Out of the Woods," she appears to describe the entire ordeal. "Remember when you hit the brakes too soon/Twenty stitches in a hospital room/When you started crying," the lyrics go. "Remember when we couldn't take the heat/I walked out, I said 'I'm setting you free'/But the monsters turned out to be just trees."
Styles has been waiting for over a year for Swift to release a breakup song about their relationship. Back in August 2013, the British heartthrob exclusively told Us Weekly that he wouldn't be surprised if she wrote about him. Read more about Taylor's new song.
"It would be hypocritical for me to say she couldn't do it because everybody writes songs based on personal experience," he told Us at the time. "I can't say I'd have dated someone less famous to avoid it."
He added: "I think it's people, you like people for who they are, so I couldn't say I want to date someone less famous because of the hassle. You like who you like."
Swift, for her part, confessed in last month's Rolling Stone that she hasn't dated again since breaking up with the boybander — and that's just fine with her.
"I feel like watching my dating life has become a bit of national pastime. And I'm just not comfortable providing that kind of entertainment anymore," she told the mag. "It's not like I've sworn off love. My life is just not conducive to bringing other people into it right now. I'm very childlike and romantic about lots of things, but I'm realistic about this."
Swift's fifth studio album 1989 is set to be released on Oct. 27.
