Tom Cruise has left the building. Earlier this month, the Jack Reacher star, 50, quietly sold his condo in New York City's East Village neighborhood for a reported $3 million, a source confirms to Us Weekly.
The apartment, housed in the star-studded American Felt building, was one of the actor's first homes, according to real-estate site Zillow. It measured a modest (by celebrity standards) 2,200 square feet, with two bedrooms, two baths, and a third room that Cruise converted into a gym. He previously shared the unit with ex-wives Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes, with whom he has a 6-year-old daughter, Suri. (First wife Mimi Rogers and former girlfriends Rebecca De Mornay and Cher also reportedly spent time in the condo, per The Real Deal.)
"He just doesn't really need it anymore," a source tells Us Weekly of why the star cut ties to the 10th-floor condo. "He's barely in the city…The only reason to keep it was when he had Suri and Katie and needed a real home in the city for them." (Holmes, 34, currently lives with her little girl in a $12,500-a-month apartment in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood; she moved into the property within days of filing for divorce from Cruise last summer.)
Another possible factor in the actor's decision to sell? "It's got memories attached to it," the source tells Us. "He's human."
Zillow reports that Cruise is looking for another property in Manhattan, but an insider says he may also seek something outside the city. "He liked the getaway he was able to do in the Hamptons with Suri, so it's not out of the question," the source tells Us.
In the meantime, the thrice-divorced star can take shelter in one of his other homes, which include a $30.5 million mansion in Beverly Hills. He also owns a sprawling property in Telluride, Colo.
