Toni Braxton is recovering at home after being hospitalized for lupus complications, a spokeswoman for the singer confirmed to the Associated Press. Maureen O’Connor told the AP that Braxton, 48, is “resting at home and is fine” after being treated at a Los Angeles hospital on Monday, October 3.
Her sister Tamar Braxton also shared the news on Instagram.
“😢I absolutely HATE when she is sick … But to God be the Glory!! T, You are home SAFE and We can make you smile even when you're faking like you feel well enough to laugh at the joke,” Tamar, 39, captioned an Instagram video of Toni in a hospital bed. “💔#LUPUSSUCKS shout out to all Lupus superwomen and men who knows what that's like❤️ #staystrong and #urock.” Tamar added a series of hashtags, including #ToniBraxtonLivingLegend.
During a 2010 interview with CBS News, the “He Wasn’t Man Enough” singer revealed that she suffers from the autoimmune disease.
This isn’t the first time the Grammy winner has been hospitalized for complications related to lupus.
"Hey guys, I'm in the hospital for health issues related to Lupus & blood clots," she tweeted at the time. "I will be home soon…Thanks for all the love & support!"
The Braxton Family Values alum has been vocal about her family’s history with the disease in the past. She told 20/20 in 2012 that an uncle died from lupus and her brother also suffers from it. The “Un-Break My Heart” singer also said the disease led to her second bankruptcy.
“I just renewed all my contracts with all my vendors, and then a month later, I got sick,” she said during her 20/20 interview.
According to the AP, Toni plans on beginning rehearsals for her upcoming tour this week.
