Blake Lively: Ryan Reynolds Doesn’t Tell Me How to Dress

Blake Lively was at the mercy of the wardrobe department for six seasons on Gossip Girl. While playing wealthy New York City socialite Serena van der Woodsen, the actress often wore up to 16 looks per episode — meaning she spent about three hours each week in fittings. “I felt like I tried on clothes for a living,” Lively jokes in the September issue of Lucky.

As a result, Lively learned a few tricks of the trade. “I like a waistline, a nip almost right under the boobs, because I want the lines of the clothes to make a journey around my curves, rather than travel straight up my body,” says the star, who doesn’t work with a stylist.

“I never think about how other people will respond to the way I dress” she adds. “Dressing up is all about reflecting how I feel.”

After secretly marrying her Green Lantern costar Ryan Reynolds in September 2012, Lively’s style seemed to become more conservative than in years past. According to the California native, however, her 36-year-old husband had nothing to do with her image makeover. “I was recently asked how my style has changed since I got married, as if I was living under some sort of dictatorship,” says Lively, who is the face of Gucci Premiere perfume. “I should hope I dress differently at 25 than I did when I graduated high school. I hope I never stop changing.”

Lively — who hasn’t worked since Gossip Girl went off the air in December 2012 — has spent the last year decorating her upstate New York home. “I’m very lucky to be with someone who has better taste than me,” she says of Reynolds. “We influence each other in different ways.”

Creating a home together, she says, can sometimes feel more rewarding than playing a character. “With film and TV, you don’t see the results for months,” she explains. “Building a home, you get immediate gratification.”

For now, enjoying married life with Reynolds is Lively’s top priority. “Work is important,” she tells Lucky, “but my greatest passion is my personal life.”
