Gywneth Paltrow's pink princess dress at the 71st Annual Academy Awards drew mixed reactions from fashion critics in 1999 — including the actress' own mother!

"It didn't fit her very well when she won an Oscar. The Ralph Lauren, it didn't fit her," actress Blythe Danner, 69, told Us Weekly at the 5th Annual Women in Film Pre-Oscar cocktail party in L.A. Friday. "She's worn some gorgeous ones since then."

Well, not always. Paltrow, now 39, was panned in 2002 when she debuted a gothic look on the Oscars red carpet. Wearing a black Alexander McQueen top and gathered taffeta skirt, Paltrow secured her spot on perennial "Worst Academy Awards Looks of All Time" lists.

Paltrow shaped up in 2005 when she glided down the red carpet in pale pink dress by her fashion designer BFF Stella McCartney. The Contagion actress oozed sophistication in 2007 when she donned a peach chiffon mermaid gown by Zac Posen, paired with Fred Leighton chandelier earrings and diamond cuff bracelet.

The GOOP goddess skipped the Academy Awards until 2011, when she reemerged wearing a fashion-forward silver Calvin Klein Collection dress and Brian Atwood's gold leather "Martina" pumps. Paltrow finished off her look with earrings, a brooch, and a ring from Louis Vuitton's jewelry collection, L'Ame du Voyage.
