Shoe news! Katy Perry — singer, songwriter, performer, cosmetics queen — has a new bullet point on her résumé: footwear designer.
The “Rise” crooner, 31, announced that she’ll design a collection of stilettos, sandals, pumps and sneakers in partnership with Global Brands Group on Tuesday, August 16. Katy Perry Footwear will retail between $59 and $299 and hit major department stores, specialty retailers and websites in February 2017.
The venture is a long time coming for Perry, who loves to play with fashion in daring red carpet looks and head-turning music video outfits. “It’s been a creative goal of mine to be a real contributor in the affordable fashion space,” Perry said in a statement. “Launching a footwear collection felt like a natural first step for me.”
And, while the looks will cost less than $300, they’ll be anything but ordinary. Expect futuristic materials like Lucite and vinyl with metallics and floral prints from the “Wide Awake” singer’s debut line. The first sketches feature sky-high heels with sexy, strappy silhouettes, fun fringe details, and even a bright red race-car theme.
“The collection highlights Katy’s signature style with unique, standout details within several distinct themes that we believe will resonate with consumers on a global level,” said Jimmy Gabriel, Global Brands Group president of footwear, in a statement.
