Talk about your not-so-basic black. Miley Cyrus lived up to her Candie's Fashion Trendsetter Award on Sunday, Aug. 11, when she rocked a racy, dominatrix-inspired outfit at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards in L.A.
Hitting the blue carpet at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, Calif., the 20-year-old "We Can't Stop" singer turned heads in a super-short leather miniskirt by Yves Saint Laurent, which she wore with a sheer fishnet shirt over a leather bra. She accessorized the look with white platform pumps and bright red nails.
Accepting the Candie's award onstage at the show, Cyrus spoke about what it means to her to be a style icon. "You know, to be a trendsetter, you have to have an amazing group of people that follow your trends, so I want to thank all my fans for following me and being inspired, and for being so original and different," she told the cheering crowd. "That's what fashion is really all about. I urge you guys to always be different."
(Indeed, the former Disney star has heeded that advice herself. "I take more control of my life, people are following that, and I think people are inspired to see someone young and taking control of what they know that they like," she said in a recent interview with Harper's Bazaar. "And I think people are wanting to see more of that right now, are wanting someone with a real clear vision of who they are.")
Cyrus also picked up surfboards on Sunday for Choice TV Scene Stealer (for her role on Two and a Half Men) and Choice Summer Song (for "We Can't Stop"). As part of her acceptance speech for the latter, she thanked her on-again love Liam Hemsworth, whom she called her "boo."
"I have to start off, of course, thanking my amazing fans, my smilers, for making this happen for me," she began. "Of course, Mike WiLL Made It, who put me on the map with 'We Can't Stop,' and my Made It Mafia family. Everyone on my label, my team. My fam, my friends, my boo -- everyone that's made this happen for me. This is so amazing. So thank you guys so much. Can't stop, won't stop!"
