L.A. Coroner Releases Brittany Murphy's Death Certificate

Tuesday – December 29, 2009 – 5:10pm

Nine days following the shocking death of Brittany Murphy at the age of 32, the Los Angeles County Coroner has released her death certificate, E! News reports.

The actress' cause of death is listed on the document as "deferred"; as reported earlier, it may take four to six weeks for toxicology, histiological and neurological test results to become available.

Look back on the stars we've lost in 2009

Tayebe Pajooh, Murphy's cousin, is listed on the certificate as the informant; Pajooh provide the mortuary with information on her late cousin.

See how Brittany looked at her last public appearance

One surprise: the death certificate fails to name Murphy's estranged father, Angelo Bertolotti. Instead, the document lists Murphy's father as "Unknown."

See a slideshow chronicling this talented actress's life

Bertolotti divorced Sharon Murphy, Brittany's mom, when Brittany was two, and spent time in a federal prison on drug charges. He admitted to UsMagazine.com that he hadn't spoken to his daughter in "about three years."

See how Brittany's image changed over the years

"She had a beautiful smile," Bertolotti told Us. "I was so proud of her. She was loveable."

I loved Brittany Murhpy she was an awesome actress and I will miss her very much. Regardless why she died the fact is she did and we have lost another great American actor. We have all done things we regret or should and should it turn out that this is the case in her death I am still saddened the cause is not as important as the reason why should it be other than natural would these beautiful talented young people with some much hope, success, and notority turn to the things other than the awesome life they have finally been blessed with we dont all come from awesome wonderful beginnings but for the famous, beautiful and talented amoung us tha reach STAR status it seems they still arent satisfied, goes to prove money and fame does not take care of all our problems.

I just want to say, NO ONE knows how or why she died. quit spreading that she overdosed or was addicted to drugs. quit saying she had an eating disorder. you did not know her and you know nothing about her. you are being very unchristian and extremely hateful. she was a normal woman who led a screwed up life b/c of people like you. leave her death private and quit bringing gossip about her life. she had a great talent and because of that tabloids are allowing YOU to drag her good character and wonderful persona through the mud. it is not right. just let it be let her rest in peace. do you think you would want half the world spreading you were anorexic or addicted to drugs or that your husband murdered you when YOUR dead? YOU do not know if any of this is true so quit making ridiculous accusations and remember how you would feel if you died from oh lets so stroke or something randomly and the whole world was saying such awful things that are being said about brittany murphy. if she died of natural causes i hope all of you look back at the things you have WRITTEN AND SAID OUT LOUD FOR THE WHOLE WORLD TO SEE OR HEAR and feel like crap. it is wrong. she was a person and it was HER life. I am not the kind of person who comments on these things or even reads them. i know almost nothing about celebs b/c i look at them normal people should.. as people with a talent just doing their job. they are PEOPLE. but reading the things that have been said about her I had to speak up b/c it is wrong. i read the article because i think brittany murphy was an extremely wonderful actress with a tremendous amount of talent. she was great at acting any type personality she had to. It is very very sad that she was taken so young. so let her be.
  • January 02, 2010 - 8:55pm In Recovery... Says:

I woke up that Sunday morning just two days into my own withdrawals and recovery from my Opiate/Norco addiction and to my husband saying "I'm following the News and you know that Brittany Murphy girl, the one you said is a friend of your cousin's?" I got this huge knot in my stomach and replied, "Uh yeah... Omigod, did she die or something?" and when he said yes... I was just in absolute and complete utter shock! Even more shocked into the reality about the effects of the abuse and lethality of opiates (Oxicontin, Vicodin, Norco, Morphine and the list goes on). That could have been me I thought and broke down... Sadly, I was diagnosed with a dehabilitating disease after nearly dying in a hospital from being septic w/infection. After many months of ER visits and unable to manage my pain/symptoms I finally received a rather devastating diagnosis but learned that it was some ways manageable. I was prescribed Norco (each one equal to two 500 mg strength vicodin) for pain. Unable to physically and mentally cope with my disease I first took the Norco for pain... than I took it to prevent the pain... and when I did not have pain I would continue to take this prescribed medication every day because of the high and the seemingly numbing feeling it would provide to me; I felt able to cope. It got to the point where I'd run out of my prescript early (unfortunately I had a doctor that would give them to me early or provide me with higher dosage whenever I asked and even deterred me from getting help when I came to her and asked her not to prescribe them to me anymore)... I'd borrow pills from friends, family and buy from other sources and when I would run out, Iâ??d even resort to the use of oxicontin (a very deadly and scary drug). It took me a year to realize what was happening to me (and many nights on very high overdose levels of prescription drugs, forcing myself to breath and honestly afraid to fall asleep or that I might not wake up) and to admit to myself that I â??am an addict and I'm abusing my prescript drugs; drugs nonetheless... less than two months to the day that I admitted to my husband that I had a severe problem (by then everyone in my immediate family had started to take notice and concern), and I asked him to take control my prescription and hand them to me like a child until I reach the courage to seek help through a place that provides help of detox and recovery. That day came sooner than I thought and Iâ??m so happy I made the choice of life and to free myself, and my family from my addiction; just two days before the death of Brittany! This isn't just some thing (disease and addiction) that happens in Hollywood. People (hundreds of thousands, maybe millions?) everywhere are either dying from or becoming addicted to drugs of all kinds everyday even when it's not at first non-intentional (I became a victim of my own genetic disease and in the process acquired an addiction)... It can happen to anyone and it hurts everyone! I wish Brittany could have saved herself! All I know is that she died at the age of 32 from â??Cardiac Arrestâ?? and that's NOT NATURAL... She obviously died of something disease related, whether it is the drug addiction disease, eating disorder disease, genetic disease; or combination of the three. So very sad, may she rest in peace and that her family finds peace! If you are a person reading this that may think that they may have any drug or disease related addiction or a eating disorder please be strong enough to seek help, and don't live another day in your battle in fear that you may not wake up to see tomorrow... YOU ARE NOT ALONE! There are so many caring and understanding people in recovery clinics or your primary healthcare that can help get you through, and help you to overcome your disease/addiction. I ask that you put your pride and any embarrassments aside and GET HELP NOW AND NOT PUT IT OFF TO LATER... Brittany ran out of time (she will be missed...), you do not have to do the same...

As a friend of the side of the family who was not invited to the funeral of which I might add is where this beautiful woman's talent sprung from. I would venture to say that there is a deeper reason that the mother's side of the family would list the father as unknown, The mother of which is the only party that is being stated as "The family" in all articles thus far has controlled this girls life for her own selfish purposes for years, as she will continue to do with her passing. I would suggest that one google the Bertolotti's, you will find that this is a family of artist in many avenues, not the "mob" family it has been portrayed, the father yes he messed up, that is only one person in a big family of talent. There is one question I have though, knowing that these mansions have their own bathrooms to the bedrooms, why was the mother having to scream for the husband? BTW there was never a divorce.

The Kennedy's didn't kill Marilyn Monroe, Brit didn't die from drugs or anorexia, and her husband didn't kill her for her money. You people are a bunch of haters. We all meet our maker in the end, wether it be Ala (sp?) or God. Then we will be judged. You holy rollers on here make me laugh. You think by placing YOUR judgement on her death makes you look any better in God's eyes? Think about it. Rest in peace Brit...

I started noticing a couple years ago that, in the pics that were being published, her skin had gotten waxy and unhealthy looking and her hair looked really dry and brittle - common symptoms of anorexia. She always seemed like a sweetie pie and I had been hoping since seeing those first pics that she would get help. :o(
  • December 30, 2009 - 8:56pm Johnny Says:

Why are people still spreading that ridiculous " The Kennedys killed Marilyn Monroe " rumor ? Marilyn was probably bipolar and sadly suffered from mental illness that she inherited from her mother. She had numerous differant doctors and on the night she died was given drugs by her psychiatrist that in combination with other drugs ( and possibly alcohol ) in her system killed her. Marilyn Monroe died from an accidental overdose. Anyone that cares to investigate the evidence in this matter will come to this same conclusion but people for their own agendas like to implicate the Kennedys.

hasn't anyone learned from the tragic death of Marilyn Munroe?
  • December 30, 2009 - 2:01pm Jen Says:

Did anyone really expect the death certificate to reveal anything that hasn't already been reported? Unfortunately the press will continue to print anything and everything they find out until the cause of her death has been determined. Maybe after that they will finally let this sweet girl rest in peace!
