  It is such a tragic ending to his life, and I feel sorry for his family, however, how are they to say that he would not go back to drugs ever in his lifetime? sobriety is not certain for any addict and noone can predict if an addict will fall off the wagon on his/her own accord or sometimes it does take a tragic event to make a person go back to drugs. I think it is sad for the estate to file this lawsuit against anyone...BUT to sue the families of the two pilots who passed away in the crash..how devestating for those families..I think losing their loved ones is enough..how could the family of Adam's do that to them????? Isn't suing big companies more than enough for these people??????

  Bad move. Nobody forced him to take drugs. Believe it or not, lots of people recover from trauma and burns are are not addicted to drugs. Hope this is thrown out of court. This young man had no self control. He could not control his own food intake and had to have gastric surgery. The accident is not responsible for his continued drug abuse. -------------------- I TOTALLY agree DEE!!

  I get so tired of people with money suing others for more money when someone they (claim to) love dies from their own "weaknesses" or stupidity. Honestly, why not sue the doctor(s) who provided the litany of meds, a la Anna Nicole and Michael Jackson, rather than accept the fact that the deceased was willing to see more than one physician and/or use false names to maintain their own pharmacy? To say nothing of the coke. People with money live in an alternate reality, I swear!

  SM - Agree, it is self inflicted - However, what I was trying to say is that once you have it - like cancer or an addiction it sneaks up on you, it can go into remission and can come back before you know it. I lost my mother to cancer and my knee brother to addiction. So I can compare! Thought my mother was going to be ok after 5 years not! Thought my brother was on the road to recovery not! You have your life and I have mine! I didn't love my brother any less for his addiction just prayed and wished he could have been stronger! I watched him go down just like my mother with cancer...yes, some will say he had a choice, I hear them, but then realize they have never had a love one with an addiction so they can't really know. Some people I don't know why, just aren't strong enough or get TIRED (like cancer) they are too tired to fight anymore... my mother was a wonderful person and mother and did nothing to deserve cancer and I know my brother's addiction was out of his weakness but when they are gone, it really doesn't matter to the one who loved them if it was cancer, addiction, car accident...your love one is just gone...........

  Im sure the crash messed him up, but HE is the one who picked up the powder and pills! I still can not believe that MTV shows his rehab show. His family should just be happy that they got to spend a few more months with him, but I guess money is better huh? If his family cared so much about him they would have been around him and known what he was doing and got him help.

  Yes and lets have the other passengers families sue Adam's estate too.. since those two probably climbed over them to get out of the plane and running yes running down the runway. Please it would be like suing Heath Ledgers last movie for killing him and making him addicted to prescription drugs...>> He was doing a reality show about rehabbing yourself .. and when it does get to court it will be thrown out..!! So greedy pig family your get rich scheme won't work because Travis is not dead from a drug overdose.

  To Mary: Addiction is NOT like cancer. Addiction is self inflicted. People do not cause their own cancer. People cause their own drug addiction by using their free will and choosing to take drugs. When are we going to end this BS that alcohol and drug addiction are "diseases". That is the biggest bunch of BS I have ever heard. I come from a family full of addicts and I have chosen not to go down that route. Alcohol and drug addiction are NOT genetic. Addiction is the out come of chosen behaviors. End of story.

  No one wants to take responsibility for themselves. For goodness sake, he was taping a show on addiction, he knew that he was in trouble and he knew that he had a prediposition to drug addition. To sue the families of the pilots, who also lost their lives is wrong and greedy. It was a tragic accident, one that have not even discovered the cause of yet. And yet, these people already trying to get rich of this.

  It was a tragedy but HE was responsible for his own death via Oxycontin OD. I think it was a bad idea that if he was supposedly clean, that he was hanging around with addicts for his new reality show he was in the middle of filming. He was even quoted as saying he (due to the show) was walking around with a crack pipe in his pocket and had one in his room and thought to himself, "this is not good, this is insane." Once an addict, always and addict and show or not he broke one of the rules- to stay away from other addicts. Sad, but a fact. The non-survivors of the actual crash might have reason to sue, IF it is determined they were negligent but not his family as no one forced those pills down his throat. Harsh? Maybe but that is a fact.
