Mackenzie Phillips to Reveal Explosive Family Secret

Tuesday – September 22, 2009 – 4:26pm

In a shocking interview with Oprah Winfrey (airing Wednesday), One Day at a Time child star Mackenzie Phillips reveals an explosive family secret that she says she's kept hidden for 31 years.

And in this week's Us Weekly, her half sister Chynna Phillips tells her side of the story regarding the as-yet-unrevealed secret. Read what she has to say here!

In a promo for Wednesday's Oprah Winfrey Show, Mackenzie, 49, doesn't hold back as she details her struggles with drugs, saying that her father first introduced her to them.

"My father shot me up for the first time," she says in a promo (see video here).

Mackenzie — who, in 2008, pleaded guilty to one count of felony cocaine possession and agreed to enter an 18-month drug deferment program — goes on to say her father, Mamas and Papas founder John Phillips, was only slightly nervous when he injected her with cocaine, saying it seemed to be the "next logical progression."

"I remember going into my room, I was crouched on the floor. ... He put the needle in my arm and put the plunger in and he missed,"  she says. "He missed the vein and my whole arm went numb."

Phillips — whose new memoir, High on Arrival, hits stores this week — also reveals how Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger tried to seduce her.

"Mick Jagger locks the door and he says, 'I've been waiting for this since you were 10 years old,'" she says in the promo, but does not state how old  she was at the time.

WHEN U GET AWAY FROM GODS LAWS THIS IS WHAT U GET. LETS TAKE THIS SLOWLY, MAN AND MAN, WOMAN AND WOMAN, TEACHER AND STUDENT, FATHER AND CHILD, MOTHER AND CHILD , MAN AND BEAST, DOES ANYONE SEE WHERE WE ARE GOING WITH THIS. ONCE U TAKE GOD OUT OF THE EQUATION, IT OPENS ALL KINDS OF DOORS. THE PEOPLE OF CALIFORNIA VOTED NO TO HOMOSEXUAL MARRIAGE, CAN U SEE WHY? HOLLYWOOD WAS A BIG SUPPORTER OF THIS KIND OF MARRIAGE. CALIFORNIA SAID NO AND THE COUNTRY SAID NO. GOD SET LIMITS FOR MAN. WHEN THERE ARE NO LIMITS TO ANYTHING U HAVE CHAOS. I PREDICT MAN AND TREE. NOW LET US ALL LEAVE HERE FRIENDS AND SAVE THAT SMELT.

Sexual abuse of children (of all ages) has been going on since humans arrived...and it has NOT abated any. Only society has continued to stick its head in the sand and ignore the warning signs. Wake-UP people...more than 4 in 10 of our children experience this horrow today. Stop pointing fingers at mothers, fathers, and other...take a look in the mirror...it is you too!

The type of backlash she is experiencing is exactly why more victims don't come forward. And realize that she IS a victim, regardless of her age and participation.

OMG that is totally disgusting! What parent would do that to their child? If this is even true, how do you have a "consensual" sexual relationship with your father for ten years? Was she so effed up that she couldn't go to the police or talk to someone about it? What person is stupid enough to do that and where was her mother while all of this was going on? Something doesn't add up here people.

I agree that this stuff should have been kept between her and her psychiatrist/therapist. It is not that she should be ashamed, but perhaps it would have been better to stay out of the public eye.

Is it really a surprise that a child turns out to have drug/alcohol/emotional problems with this kind of dysfunctional parenting? People don't get this damaged by accident.
  • September 24, 2009 - 2:29am Anonymous Says:

I Believe what she says is true, it was a disfunctional family from the get go,people misunderstand the era the beginning of idolation of pop stars and all that goes with it, as a child of being molested no matter what you use you dont see things clearly. may God guide and protect you mckenzie, i totally understand where you have been you are not alone. What a brave woman you are. Stay strong love the lord and he will and knows you have suffered enough. be strong no matter what some people may think they have touched on this situation themselves and you had the nerve to bring it out. god bless you dear girl. you are not alone ever.

TOO MUCH INFORMATION. I DID NOT NEED TO KNOW THIS AND PERHAPS SHE SHOULD BE TELLING HER SHRINK.....

She is telling a story about her life. She has finally come clean with her life. She was a child star. Her father was a with the Mamas and the Papas. I support her all the way. Anyone who knows anything about drugs, abuse and family issues, will surely be rooting for her. We as women, need to stick together, and support eachother, we cannot allow men to control our lives. Tyra Banks got out of an emotionaly abusive relationship, and can now let other girls know it is possible to live without abuse. Please ladies, come forward, we no longer will be treated as the weaker sex, and be told "it's all in our heads".

Anybody else think that this is WAY too much information? I mean, kudos on rehab and all, but I didn't need to know she was in an incestuous relationship with her dad. Consensual. Eww.
  • September 23, 2009 - 12:06pm Anonymous Says:

She is a train wreck...trying to sell some books...Come on we all saw her at 18, she has never been attractive and to think that Mick Jagger waited for her? Please...How sick is she to say she had a ten year "affair" with her dad? There is a word for that but "affair" is not it
  • September 23, 2009 - 10:56am Carlysday Says:

OMG! I am so glad that she got realhelp at a rehab that had her address the root of her addictions. This kind of trauma easily feeds an addiction and keeping it locked up keep fueling the addiction. Her family will heal with her now. Getting help for an addiction is the best thing you can do. I heard she did Celeb rehab after she went to a long term rehab and got herself together. That was really smart given all she had to handle. I respect that she is now helping others heal!
  • September 23, 2009 - 10:30am Jerome Says:

I, like everyone else here, don't know whether she's telling the truth or not. However, since she's told the "daddy gave me coke" and "Mick Jagger had me on my 18th birthday" stories so many times before, she was going to need something major to get back on the tv circuit and sell books.
  • September 23, 2009 - 10:30am Tallsomeone Says:

C'mon, world, this is happening in thousands of families and has since the dawn of time. How do we solve it as a whole? We can't let this look like a celebrity odd-ball thing -- it is real and prevalent. Let's not act like it takes TV drama to get the issue out.

September 22, 2009 - 10:12pm Anonymous Says: Seems like Oprah feeds on stories like this. Last week it was Whitney and who will it be next week. Blame her show for doing this to families. Shame on her. Get some guests that have really struggled in life, cancer, hard work, homeless, etc. Self promoting is not good in my eyes. I will not watch as Oprah's ratings and magazine sales have slipped. I could not do this to my family even though we have had major problems, they are personal. ************************************************************ Oh my gosh, shut up please! Trying everyday to overcome addiction and sexual abuse IS a struggle. Some of you people are completely stupid.
