  Mr. Johnson: The USSR and the PRC are (or were) socialist republics, not communist. To go a step further, The PRC actually calls itself a "people's democratic dictatorship" according to its constitution (although I question how democratic and dictatorship fit together). Olly is correct in the communist definition. But the discussion here isn't what those countries are or what people call Obama. It is about Palin lashing out at Couric in her book and why. Couric had tried to present the substance of Palin's knowledge, understanding, and ability to govern on a national stage. Whether the interview was biased or not, Palin was hurt politically, and apparently, personally, by how she was portrayed (or how she presented herself). Given all that, I'm am unsure how many of her supporters actually know her opinions on national issues following that interview (feel free to check out http://www.ontheissues.org/Sarah_Palin.htm). Knowledge is power, fear and anger are not.

  Palin's worst problems are not the hostility of the media, but the fact that her core support demographic are reactionary voters like aj who are severely under-educated. Obama is a communist...really? Communists believe in collective production and decentralised government. Policies apart, Sarah Palin was completely beyond her capabilities in tangling with the media at a presidential level. I would love to see Sarah Palin run for the presidency in 2012, because I dislike the Republican party. Sadly, I can't see the strategists of the GOP falling for Palin twice.

  Katie "the Colon" Couric, all I see is her ridiculous live colonoscopy on TV. She should have stayed on her morning fluff brigade because she is an abject failure on serious news. Now they have ruined 60 minutes by putting her there. She brought the ratings so low they had to remove her from her other gigs. Now, with her new Peter Pan hairdo, we are supposed to believe she is a "really, really, really" serious talking bobblehead. Lets face it most people today read at a third grade level, those are the ones who gush over her.

  This is for AJ who called Obama a COMMUNIST Republicans accuse Democrats of being radical left-wing Socialists, and then make references to Communist Leaders. For the un-Educated Palin-ite followers, The difference between Communism and Socialism is that in a Socialist Economy, the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government. In Communism, there is no Central government, thus making your premise null and invalid! By the way, the $1200 stimulus package given to the residents of Alaska would also be considered a Socialist Act. So please leave your trailor park, and locate a Barnes & Noble!

  I have many friends who are Republicans. We have CONSTRUCTIVE debates. I think theyâ??re VERY intelligent! Not all Democrats are out for blood! Spare me the melodrama! Many Republicans were supporters of Mitt Romney, NOT Sarah Palin. If Palin wants to surivive in Politics, my advice, learn US history.   I have to agree with Maureen......Couric is a complete idiot! Jealous and hateful! Like many women in America, she is judging Sarah Palin because she is 1)Skinny 2)Beautiful and 3) HONEST. I don't think Sarah would make a good president, but I do feel she is much needed in America. Her honesty and kindness doesn't fit in with the liars and phoney pigs in our Government. But, at least she can prove she was born in "America"........Unlike our president!

  I have no idea why Katie Couric is on Tv. Everyone uundermines Sarah Pailin but did you ever seem to wonder the existence of Couric? I mean lets get real I would ANY news. I'm not inspired to ever read a Biography of her from Barnes and Nobles, even if its on sale! I don't know how she ever became who she is but I know what thing she doesn't fit the Journalist profile.   Okay, aj, what are you talking about? If Sarah Palin represents 'what is good about America,' then America is seriously screwed up. If Sarah Palin going to run for Vice President, of course she's going to get questions about politics. Duh. America should know how prepared she is for her job. And asking questions about foriegn policy, the Bush Doctrine, and the bailout, are reasonable questions that anyone running for a spot in office SHOULD have an intelligent answer to. I don't see how Palin can call those 'gotcha questions...' Those are some major issues, and the fact that Sarah Palin couldn't even answer the questions... that is just sad.

  Well, of course, Couric badgered Palin in the intereview. That's what Katie does best -- try to get sound bites that they can cut out of context. Look at any interview she does with a conservative. BUT, what did Sarah Palin expect?? That Katie was going to try to get her elected? We all know that's not where her head is. She is one of the most biased people on television and that's probably why her ratings are so low.

  It's notable that the only person who has ever publicly "slammed" Katie Couric for being badgering, biased, edited out the substantive exchanges in lieu of "gottcha" moments...is the same person who gave a cringingly bad interview, showed herself to be chronically unprepared for the role she sought and thoroughly embarrassed herself. Problem is, Sarah Palin's ego does not allow her to face reality, accept her failings and take responsibility for her actions. She has to rewrite history to exonerate herself. It's sad really.

  Uh, sure... "what do you read"? is a "gotcha" question. "how do you define the Bush doctrine" (which Palin flogged endlessly) is "gotcha". I understand. Any question you can't answer is a "gotcha" question. Anyone remember how Palin said in that interview that the bailout plan was important because it would lead to health care reform? HUH??

  Of course, the dems and the media are out to get Palin! Where's the outrage in that? Thats what happens to people who run for office. It's up to the candidate to overcome the negativity of the interviewer or opposing candidate. Duh...
