Gabourey Sidibe sure must be grateful for this!

In Jennifer Hudson's  book I Got This: How I Changed My Ways and Lost What Weighed Me Down, the 30-year-old singer-actress opens up about why she turned down an opportunity to star in the Academy Award nominated 2009 film Precious.

"I had [gained weight] with Effie [in Dreamgirls]," she explains, as excepted by Uptown Magazine. "And as much as I was moved by this film, I wanted to try a role that had nothing whatsoever to do with my weight."

Instead, Hudson, who won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Dreamgirls, went on to co-star in the first Sex and the City Movie alongside Sarah Jessica Parker.

Since her days on American Idol, Hudson has dropped 80 lbs. with the help of Weight Watchers. In September, she even opened up the Jennifer Hudson Weight Watchers Center in Chicago.

I wouldn't take the Precious role either; I have seen the trailer and various excerpts and how anyone could sit through this misery-fest is quite beyond me. Jennifer Hudson made absolutely the right decision not to double her body weight for this role; that really would have been a foolish decision. JHud now has almost every entertainment award going (I think only a TONY award is missing from her collection but all in due time!) and now has more film options open to her as well as her singing talent!

Can't really blame her. I don't think I'd want to gain all of that weight to play a role either.

People stop hating on Jennifer Hudson. Her voice is top notch period. She lost weight for herself. Jen did not do it for you small minded no class people. Jhud is a superstar all do to her singing and as an actress. Award winning of them both. If she ever gain her weight back the point system will still be around(Weight Watches). Don't worry about Jen look at yourself in the mirror. She have told you clowns she got this!!!

I hate that her talent as a singer (not my taste, but she can belt it) is always overshadowed by the fact she's lost weight. Blah who cares

  • December 26, 2011 - 7:12pm Murielle Mierisch

I really don't blame her but Jennifer is no longer the girl that can sing . All we talk about i her weight . Once upon a time there was a girl that loved who whe was and claimed that she loved her curves. Now she is just another skinny singer who we just talk about her weight. Let us hope that she don't gain it back like Oprah because the only focus that we have is on her weight and not on her talent.
