When Dr. Izzie Stevens met Rory Gilmore. Katherine Heigl's latest film project involves a wedding, but is a big change from her 27 Dresses days. The actress will star in the independent film Jenny's Wedding alongside Alexis Bledel, who will play her onscreen lesbian partner.
Jenny's Wedding centers on Jenny (Heigl) whose conservative family encourages her to settle down and tie the knot. That is, until they find out that she longs to walk down the aisle with a woman named Kitty (Bledel).
In the film's first photo, Heigl and Bledel, 32, share an intimate moment together in bed. The actresses cuddle and smile, while the Mad Men star has her hand on Heigl's shoulder.
"This film is about a young woman's journey to live the life that is right for her and live it proudly," Heigl, 35, says of the project in a press release. "It is a project that I'm so passionate about and grateful to be a part of."
Producers of the indie are hoping to raise $150,000 through Indiegogo, a crowd funding platform that will help to pay for its music, titles, color and sound, and more. The campaign's perks include exclusive signed and advanced screenplays, and behind-the-scenes footage.
"Jenny's Wedding has been a true labor of love for all involved in the production," filmmaker Michelle Manning adds in the release. "The money we're hoping to raise through Indiegogo will ensure that we are able to make the most beautiful film possible." Veteran actors Tom Wilkinson, Linda Emond, and Grace Gummer are also set to star.
