Valerie Harper Reacts to Dancing With the Stars Elimination: “I Have a Fabulous Life”

Valerie Harper on Dancing With The Stars

Oct. 7 was a sad night on Dancing With the Stars, as the inspirational Valerie Harper made her exit after four weeks of performances.

The former Mary Tyler Moore Show actress bowed out gracefully after a tear-inducing performance with dance pro Tristan MacManus of the Viennese Waltz to fun.'s "Carry On."

Unfortunately her attempt failed to impress the judges, and she ended up with the low score of 18 points total. When host Tom Bergeron told the 74-year-old it was "OK to get pissed off every so often," she humbly replied, "I'm not though, except at myself because of the work this gorgeous man puts in every week," she said of pro partner MacManus, 31.

The star's high-publicized battle with lung cancer has been an inspiration to many. In March 2013, she revealed that doctors had given her up to three months left to live. Now, seven months later, she's still going strong with a spring in her step and a grin on her face.

Guest host and former dance pro Julianne Hough wiped away some tears after Harper's dance, and gave her some words of support.

"I don't think I've had the chance to tell you how courageous I think you are," Hough said. "You're beautiful, and I bow down to you."

After her elimination, Harper was spotted on Access Hollywood with her signature smile still in place.

"Everybody inspires everybody every day. They just don't get publicized for it," she said after the reporter praised her for being an inspiration. "I got to do it on a great big stage with this gorgeous hunk of man."

And when asked again about her upbeat attitude, Valerie replied, "I have a fabulous life. I mean there's been rough times, but I'm so blessed in so many ways that I would be so petty to be saying, 'The world's not going the way I want it to.'"

Harper's Season 17 co-stars took the time to talk with Us Weekly about the impact Harper's made on the show.

"Valerie was really this grounded one for all of us," former Disney star Corbin Bleu told Us. "She really pulled everybody together. You know there will be something really missing next week."

Former Jersey Shore star Snooki was impressed by Valerie's energy and positivity.

"She has more life than anybody else in this competition," Snooki said. "She's so positive. Nothing ever bothers her and she's just an inspiration."
