Adam Lambert Not Sorry for Simulating Oral Sex at AMAs

Monday – November 23, 2009 – 10:39am

Adam Lambert is making no apologies for his racy performance during Sunday's American Music Awards.

While closing the show with his new single "For Your Entertainment," the American Idol alum, 27, simulated fellatio with a male dancer, kissed male keyboardist Tommy Ratliff, grabbed his crotch and flipped off the crowd. (According to Rolling Stone, Lambert didn't clear the kiss with anyone in advance; he told CNN the smooch happened "in the moment.")

His performance was edited for the west coast feed of the awards show.

See who the best dressed stars were at the AMAs last night!

"You know honestly, if I offended some people... it's apples and oranges. I'm not an artist that does things for every single person," he told Access Hollywood. "I believe in artistic freedom and expression, I believe in honoring the lyrics of a song, and those lyrics aren't really for everybody either."

He also said he considered editing his performance "discrimination."

Check out more photos of Adam Lambert from the American Idol finale

"There's a big double standard, female pop artists have been doing things provocative like that for years, and the fact that I'm a male, and I'll be edited and discriminated against could be a problem," he explained.

Added Lambert, "People are scared and it's really sad, I just wish people could open their minds up and enjoy things, it's all for a laugh, it's really not that big of a deal."

Still, some fans and celebs don't agree.

See Adam Lambert and other stars who were honored at Us' Hot Hollywood party last week!

"Did Adam Lambert just grind some dude's head in his crotch... TO MY NIECE... GO TO BED NOW!" The View's Sherri Shepherd Twittered. "And did Adam Lambert slip the tongue to one of his dancers???? Whoa... Celibate woman here... turning off TV now..."

Tell Us: Do you think Lambert's performance was suitable for television?

While Adam points out that Diva Diana Ross did touch Lil Kim's breast, there are a couple of important distinctions that separate that incident from his unfortunate situation. First, Diana was actually "chastising" Lil Kim for her rather revealing pastee and this was on cable on MTV. And it did get its fair amount of play as a news item so it isn't like the moment went by unnoticed.

OMG people grow up. Ya'll loved it when Britney and Madonna slipped some tounge. It's all for publicity, get over it.

I have been pleasantly surprised reading some of the comments here that are in support of Adam. When I watched his AMA's performance, I thought, "Wow, that was a little risque," but I was not disappointed in the least. I didn't realize how much people were going to be talking about it and it mostly just makes me proud of Adam. He's doing what he always wanted to do, and if some people don't like it, well too bad for them. They're missing out on a great artist. I'm just happy for him and for myself and the rest of his supporters who are happy to see him taking the world by storm like we knew he would. Keep it up, Adam. Your fans are excited to see what you STILL have in store for us. :)

I thought he went a little overboard. And his vocals were atrocious. But he has talent. He got a little to arrogent, but if he tones it down and performs with his vocals in mind, he will be very successful. I love his album!

Adam gives gays a bad name.He has to walk into a room an say, Hi my name is Adam and I'm gay.Ever hear a straight person say that? He's screaming for validation that it's "Normal" to be gay. It's not for everyone. He has no respect for himself nevermind letting others have their beliefs. Sad an pathetic little "man".Grow up Adam-life doesn't spin around who you choose to sleep with.

Really, the only "acceptable" (I use that term loosely) form of discrimination left in America is that against homosexuals. Though Adam probably shouldn't have gestured something so graphic, his actions spoke out for the LGBTQ community. What is so shocking about being gay? It's like being straight, but you can't procreate. Before the Bible and the major religions that exist in our world today, the Ancient Greeks looked only at the beauty of sex, it didn't matter which gender... and it shouldn't. As far as Adam's career goes, I believe it has done more to help his career-- he has America buzzed, and all eyes are on him. Though I fully support Adam, I do wonder, "Is America ready for an openly gay super star?" Well. Why not? As Adam mentioned in his interview, what exactly is so scary about homosexuality? I can think of far worse things. Tone it down Adam, but keep on going!

First of all, why would any parent let their kids stay up on a Sunday until 11PM??? It was a performance...BIG DEAL! We still live in double standard world! We see to girls making out and it's "SEXY". We see two guys kiss and everyone makes a BIG DEAL! There are better things to talk about in the media such as actually news. Here I am watching the nightly news waiting to see what is going on the world and the first headline was Adam Lambert's inappropriate performace! Ignorance...ignorance...ignorance!
  • December 02, 2009 - 1:54am Nelly Says:

oh please people it's one performance and people are only making such a big deal because he is a dude if people were true fans they wouldn't be so mean so suck it up dick heads and move on it's over and done with we can't change that.
  • December 01, 2009 - 1:38pm uli Says:

i think it wasn't a big deal with the adam lambert thing.
  • November 30, 2009 - 8:09pm Maddy Says:

What all stars want is major publicity... and that's just what Adam's getting, any publicity is good publicity, it means people are talking about you. You could argue forever and ever about if he was right or if he was wrong. There is no right or wrong here, it's all on what you believe, everyone has different values. And for the people that keep commenting on and on about how much they are offended from this well HEELLLLOOOO you're giving Adam just what he wants, publicity; people talking about him; getting his name spread around. So thanks on behalf on Adam Lambert ;) Adam- you rock, don't ever change.
  • November 29, 2009 - 10:01pm Lisa Says:

I was one of Adam's fans on AI. Kissing on the lips is one thing. What Adam and the other performer did on that stage was unacceptable. I don't care what gender they are. That was just wrong!
  • November 28, 2009 - 9:01am LEELA Says:

Don't like to see women kissing each other like that and I don't like to see men kissing each other like that either. All this sex shown in public is not good for the children. We might as well be animals. BUT WE'RE NOT!!!!!!
  • November 27, 2009 - 10:24am JEM Says:

We have seen for years how women have been degraded via ads, then bedroom scenes were allowed. Ouch! We don't care to be used, any more than men did. Now its all out in the open, and really sickening. Lots of us don't watch movies, just for this reason.
  • November 26, 2009 - 10:23pm liz Says:

ps dear 'roger'; the bible acknowledges that sex isn't just for procreation!! Is that why most people are having sex? Why is that your problem, do Muslim people get mad at you for not praying to Allah 5 times a day?? Anyway you should brush up on your Hebrew, because there was no Hebrew word for gay there was only "kadesh" which translates to mean temple prostitute used in pagan rituals who did bisexual things for money.

Oh I'm so glad they consulted that dingbat from the view. They could have consulted my coffee table and gotten a better answer.
  • November 26, 2009 - 7:19pm Koo Says:

I think the "simulation" was a little too far. As for the kiss, it's not much different than the Madonna/Britney kiss. I think it's being made a big deal of when it doesn't need to be.
  • November 26, 2009 - 6:14pm lauren Says:

female artist can do dirty things and its no big deal but when a male does everyone freaks out. i think that is discrimination.
  • November 26, 2009 - 4:57pm mel Says:

    What a tacky man.
  • November 26, 2009 - 2:28pm kacey Says:

There is something terribly wrong in our society when people think there is nothing wrong with a man or woman (tongue?) kissing another man or woman whether on t.v. or not. It's wrong because it is NOT natural. You cannot argue the point that a man's body was CREATED to perfectly fit a woman's body. ALL the parts fit perfectly for PROCREATION! The USA and our world is going downhill very quickly. We are living in the book of Revelation and I think the new movie 2012 is just another warning that pretty soon we are all going to have to stand before the Judgement seat of Christ. One last thing "we all have sins" and one sin is not greater than another. Regarding MR. LAMBERT and all homosexuals and lesbians, please research the FORMER cities Sodom and Gomorrah!
