Mo'Nique Dedicates Golden Globe Win to Abuse Victims

Sunday – January 17, 2010 – 9:12pm

Mo'Nique may not have prepared her speech, but when she won Best Supporting Actress in a Drama for her role in Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire, she didn't have a hard time making a statement.

"Everybody kept asking me do I know my speech, and I said, 'No, I don't know what I'm going to say because I don't want people to think I just know I done won something,' so no, I don't know!" the 42-year-old star joked.

Although she admitted to "shaking" on stage, she thanked her husband, Sidney Hicks.

"When I tell you all I am in the midst of my dream and when I look into the eyes of the man I stood next to at 14 years old and I said to him, 'One day we're going to be stars, and he said, 'You first.'" Mo'Nique said. "And we walked this red carpet together tonight. Sidney, I will love you more than you will ever know, baby."

Mo'Nique, who played an abusive mother named Mary Jones in the film, also thanked costar Gabourey Sidibe for "letting me play" despite the serious subject matter of the film.

"I celebrate this award with all the Preciouses, with all the Marys -- I celebrate this award with every person that's ever been touched," she said. "It's now time to tell. And it's okay."

Classy lady and well deserved of this award, you can hear that she will never forget who she is and where she came from. A breath of fresh air as with the star of the movie.

The "baby'' talk just goes along with her over-exaggerated blackness in her speech. Mo 'Nique is not an old woman, she just acts like one when she has a mostly black audience. She talks just like my grandmother, which isn't bad, but it's very played out. I am happy, though that she won the award. That role would have been tough for anyone, and she really made me hate her!

WOW! CONGRATS ON THE GLOBE! I smell Oscar in the air too. You were MAGNIFICENT in that role and it brought me to tears. I didn't grow up in a compromising environment or abused but felt every emotion while viewing this movie that any human can experience. That is what acting is all about. And Kudos to your amazing husband to put it in a way that most of Hollywood will never understand: Family first, and lots and lots of love in the home. Enjoy the moment and it is a well deserved honor to a person that worked long and hard to get this award.

January 18, 2010 - 12:18am Robin Says: Happy for her but she needs to stop saying, "Baby" all the time. Sounds really shallow and stupid. ************************************* Robin, I'm sure all the people who are subjected to being around you on a daily basis wish you would just shut up. Of all the things to post. Your comment, just like you, are irrelevant. ANYWAY- Glad this chick won! She's a real actress and a real woman.
