SNL Newcomer Won't Be Fired for Dropping the F-Bomb

Monday – September 28, 2009 – 12:00pm

Saturday Night Live newcomer Jenny Slate made quite an impression on viewers of the NBC sketch show's season premiere Saturday.

In her debut appearance on the series, a skit costarring Kristin Wiig as a fellow biker chick, Slate, 27, let the F-word fly live on air.

Revisit stars' funniest SNL moments.

"You know what? You freakin' just threw an ashtray full of butts at my head," Slate told Wiig.
Later in the skit, Slate took things a step further, adding; "You know what? You stood up for yourself, and I f----- love you for that." (The slip aired live for East Coast viewers, but the network replaced it with "freakin'" by the time it hit the West Coast.)

WATCH THE SKIT WITH JENNY SLATE.

Though the New York Daily News reports show execs were not happy and called a meeting after the show to discuss the slip, Slate will keep her job.

"[There is] no truth to firing conjecture," NBC spokeswoman Sharon Pannozzo said. "She will not be fired."

Since Slate's mistake aired after the prime time broadcast window, at 12:40 a.m., NBC and SNL are not expected to incur fines from the Federal Communications Commission.

I'm not a huge fan of the show anymore but I would really like to see anyone of you bitching about the writers come up with a really good skit or keep a show on the air for as long as Lorn Michaels has. If you say you can your full of S***!

Oh c'mon..What's the big deal w/ this? Even if it HAD been deliberate (and it obviously wasn't) what in hell is the BIG DEAL? I mean who fucking cares? It was almost 1am and any kid who would have been "traumatized" by such language should have been in bed anyway...And any adult who might have been probably wouldn't have been watching the show anyway..This is such a non-issue as to be utterly ridiculous. Personally, I couldn't care less if "fuck" was a regular part of the show's vocabularly...It's just a word...Who cares?

The skit was written by poorly trained chimps - it was that awful. By the way, why was the multi-talented Michaela Watkins fired and the quite mediocre at best Amy Elliot retained? Could it be her Daddy, Chris Elliot, had something to do with it? Nah - there's no nepotism in show biz, right?

oh, that show is still on? I remember when I used to watch it. Then it quit being funny.

I felt sorry for her becasue it was totally an accident and you could see it in her face. I am a faithful fan of SNL and it may not ALWAYS be funny but it still has it's moments.

It's not her or even her profanity, it's Lorn Michael's and the writers, it's not funny and much of it is crappy, they need to fire the writers.

Ok now settle down. SNL definately has some funny moments still today. Their comedy has changed just like the times. I mean seriously didn't Norm McDonald get fired for dropping the FBomb while doing weekend update a few years ago???? I'm just saying.........

This show hasn't been funny since the 80's. Sadly, I think this show has seen it's better days.

Mr. Michael's needs to go back and start over using his same logic that started the show, I graduated high school in 1975 and there has not been a cast as good as the first since!

This stunt was so pathetic I saw it live and didn't even notice she actually said the f word. The whole skit was like, "I'm going to say friggin a million times, isn't that hilarious?" Um, no.

Accident? Sure. More like a publicity stunt for the season opener. Hey SNL, you want viewers, try writing something funny. Or how about firing that lame head writer and update host Seth Meyers instead of those women you let go.
