SYTYCD Winner: How I'm Going to Spend My $250,000

Thursday – December 17, 2009 – 10:18am

Russell Ferguson -- 20-year-old Hip-Hop/Krump dancer from Boston -- tells Usmagazine.com it "feels like a dream come true" to win Fox's So You Think You Can Dance.

Ferguson tells Us he was especially shocked, considering that he injured himself during a hip-hop routine with fellow contestants Jonathan "Legacy” Perez and Kevin Hunte.

"I was hoping I'd be standing here, but I never would have imagined this day!" he tells Us. "Everything has fallen into place, everything feels so perfect right now. I couldn't ask for anything more. I'm just honored to be in a position to tell other Krumpers, 'You can do this.' They might even believe me now!"

So what will he do with his $250,000 prize?

"The first thing I'm going to buy is a car, so I can get myself around Boston," he tells Us. "I also want to help kids there because that's what it's all about -- just getting around the community and seeing how I can give back somehow. If you just keep a gift like that to yourself, it means nothing."

Next up for Ferguson: Performing in the 2010 Oscars telecast.

Says the dancer, "It's like a big tidal wave."

  • December 17, 2009 - 10:40pm Voted for Russell Says:

Saying he won becuase he was black? Oh please, that is stupid... He won because he is good and had the most votes.. I think all of them danced great and all deserve wonderful careers in dance.. This was not a racial thing, if you felt that way, then you should have voted..... He is a young kid living his dream, stop being such haters..

Tramp, that's your opinion that Russell's not the best dancer. What matters is he is the FAVORITE dancer, as the show reminds us each week.

Russell, you deserved to win. I am so happy for you. You were the jack-of-all-trades dancer with minimal training who blew us away each week. You were my favorite guy & Kathryn was my favorite girl, so I am so enthused that America finally got the final four lineup right (it took six seasons...about time). Russell, I'm still cheering for you. Really, the top 20 of each season are all winners because the exposure from SYTYCD will land them lots of work.

Way to go Russell. My only problem was that he didn't thank the FANS once last night during his speech (unless I missed it), but if it weren't for his fans voting for him, he wouldn't have won. Ya know!!!! Please let me know if I missed that part. Thx!

Russell did an amazing job. I honestly thought Jakob would win because etchnically he was phenomenal, but it's America's FAVORITE dancer, not best dancer. Russell tackled every dance style tht was given to him and rocked it every time. Very inspirational and well deserved.

Way to go Russell. Your mom, sister and family must be so proud of you. This is fantastic. You showed that Faith in God brings you through anything and will makes all of your dreams and wishes come true. So proud of you. Keep the Faith going. Just because you have won doesn't mean that you stop believing, trusting, praying and dreaming. Congrats
