Ashlan Gorse Cousteau is diving into unexplored territory. The Caribbean Pirate Treasure host revealed exclusively to Us Weekly that she and her husband, Philippe Cousteau, are expecting their first child together in late May.
“We are incredibly excited and a wee bit nervous about starting our family,” the TV personality, 37, told Us. “We have traveled the globe and explored wonderful things, but this will be our biggest adventure yet.”
Ashlan and Philippe, 38, tied the knot in September 2013. The couple travel the Caribbean looking for sunken treasures on their Travel Channel series and are looking forward to sailing the open seas with their little one.
“We can’t wait to meet our little Baby fish,” Ashlan gushed to Us. “We already have her/him signed up for swimming lessons!”
The entertainment journalist met her future spouse — an environmental advocate who is the grandson of late marine conservationist Jacques Cousteau — when she attended a talk about the 2010 BP oil spill, where he was a featured speaker. “He had this amazing presence,” she gushed to Brides. “I was immediately intrigued.” Ashlan and the French native ended up getting dinner after the event and they have been inseparable ever since. Philippe, who cofounded EarthEcho International, proposed in Paris November 2012.
The mom-to-be has raved about exploring the globe with her husband. “Our first piece of advice for all new couples is to travel together first. Go on a trip and not necessarily a week away at the Ritz. Rough it a little bit and that’s when your true colors come out when you’re out of your comfort zone,” Ashlan shared with Forbes in June. “And if you can travel well together, we both believe that you will go through life well together.”
