Although Celine Dion is only 14 weeks along with twins, the singer has already traveled a long, hard road.
"I feel like I've been pregnant more than a year," the singer, 42, tells French paper Le Journal de Montreal.
As with their first child Rene-Charles, 9, Dion and husband Rene Angelil used in vitro fertilization to conceive their twins-to-be. It was their sixth attempt, and Dion admitted to Oprah Winfrey last year that she had suffered a miscarriage. The twins — she finds out the gender next week — are due in November.
"I never gave up," Dion says. "But I can tell you that it was physically and mentally exhausting."
Husband Angelil, 68, adds, "these treatments were truly hard on my wife's body. It wasn't simple at all."
Dion's rep confirmed to UsMagazine.com that the Grammy-winning singer spent a month a half in New York City for IVF treatments and also tried acupuncture.
She admits she was a bit of a nervous wreck as they waited for the pregnancy to hold. "My doctors had to constantly reassure me…Each week I had sonograms. I heard their heart beats."
And now, she'll do whatever doctors tell her in order to keep her babies safe. "It's stressful but I'm relaxing. I look at my little belly. I do almost nothing," she says. "If you tell me I have to stay in bed, I will stay in bed until November, when the babies are born. To bring them into the world, there's nothing more important than that. It's incredible."
"There are no accomplishments bigger than" motherhood, she says. "The trophies and money, that doesn't give meaning to live and that doesn't give you true happines…a baby — yes."
How did the couple react to the news of the twins? "There truly great emotions after all our efforts," she gushes.
