Prince George lends a helping hand! The 2-year-old joined his parents to trim a 9-foot, locally sourced pine at their 10-bedroom Anmer Hall in Norfolk, England, on Dec. 5. The brother of Charlotte, 7 months, “had a blast putting up decorations,” a family source reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly.
Eleven days earlier, the toddler accompanied his mom, Duchess Kate Middleton, 33, to nearby Fakenham Garden Centre, where she picked up a battery-lit star, a roll of gold gauze, and a mini pre-strung tree. “George wanted everything he saw,” says a staffer. “Kate let him choose a couple of ornaments, including a felt penguin.”
Dad Prince William, 33, is bracing himself for the holiday. “My George will be bouncing around like a rabbit!” he cracked in the latest issue of UK magazine The Big Issue. “If I get any sleep on Christmas Eve, it’ll be good.”
The Duke of Cambridge also noted that George is now old enough to understand what the holiday entails (presents, anyone?), and that it will also be his baby girl’s first Christmas.
“So that will be two children: one who suddenly appreciates Christmas, which could be quite challenging,” he noted. “But I’m looking forward to it."
But trees with trimmings and holiday decorations aren’t the only things that excite Prince George. In an interview with Sky News last month, Prince Charles revealed that his grandson loves nature. “He’s one of those characters, I think, who naturally, instinctively, likes to be outside,” said the Prince of Wales, 67. “It’s very interesting. I’m intrigued to see if it lasts, but he loves being outside, which is encouraging.”
