Baby Penelope was almost going to be baby Mila!
Kourtney Kardashian and her boyfriend of six years, Scott Disick, made a last-minute decision on their daughter's name after she was born on July 8.
An insider tells Us Weekly the pair had originally planned on naming their baby girl Mila — but switched to Penelope Scotland Disick. Despite the unexpected name swap, the birth was "relaxed and easy," says a family source.
And Kourtney, 33, who famously helped pull son Mason out during his 2009 delivery, had a teammate in Disick, 28. "He was really supportive," adds the source. "He may be an ass at times, but he comes through for the big stuff."
The couple welcomed daughter Penelope in front of her extended family — and a home video camera, capturing the moment to air on Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
According to Pamela Satran at Nameberry.com, Penelope is a Greek name that means "weaver." It is also associated with the faithful wife of Odysseus in Homer's Odyssey. And the middle name of Scotland as a middle name, a source confirmed to Us, was a creative way to honor the little girl's father, Scott.
Popular nicknames for Penelope include Penny, Nell, Nellie and Poppy.
