Boy, oh, boy! Kris Allen and his wife Katy O'Connell will welcome their first son together this July, the season 8 American Idol champ revealed for the first time during an interview with Hollywire TV during the SXSW Festival March 16.
"I am really excited," the 27-year-old singer-songwriter said. "I've always wanted to be a dad." Adding that he "just found out" his child's gender, Allen said his high school sweetheart has "already started buying him clothes like mine. He's already got some [fedoras]."
The "Vision of Love" singer also shared an update on his wrist, which was "shattered" when he was involved in a head-on collision on New Year's Day. "It's getting better, but it's slow," Allen said. "I'm not quite playing [guitar] yet, but I'm getting there. It's so frustrating, but it's okay. I've actually started picking it up and messing around a little bit."
Allen expects to make a full recovery while he lays down tracks for his upcoming third studio album. "I'll make whatever feels right and just let people hear it," he said of his new material.
