Mike Myers Has a Rags-to-Riches Story: ‘I Grew Up in Government-Assisted Housing’

Mike Myers may have recently shelled out more than $14 million for a sprawling NYC condo, but he didn’t always have money.

“I grew up in government-assisted housing in Toronto, so all of this is bizarre!” Myers told Us Weekly at the Terminal premiere in L.A. on Wednesday, May 9. “This is the happiest time of my life.” 

It’s safe to say the Canada native is living his best life. According to Forbes, the actor earned about $108,000 per minute for 2007’s Shrek the Third. And he is worth an estimated $175 million.

“This what I love to do,” Myers told reporters of entertaining.I’ve been able to do a lot of stuff lately.” Three important people are holding out for one project in particular. His children – Spike, 6, Sunday, 4, and Paulina, 2, whom he shares with wife Kelly Tisdale have their fingers crossed for a fourth Austin Powers film. (In April 2017, the comedian told The Hollywood Reporter that he would “love to do another” and hinted that he and director Jay Roach might be reuniting.)

“They keep asking me, ‘Where’s the fourth Austin Powers?’ which is the weirdest thing,” he said. The father of three then recalled a recent evening when Spike started asking questions about the British spy comedy. 

“He just went, ‘Dad, is there gonna be a fourth?’ and I said, ‘Uh, I’d like to! I don’t know,’” Myers recalled. “And then he said, ‘What’s Dr. Evil’s lair?’ and I said, ‘An oil rig.’ And he said, ‘What’s an oil rig?’ and I said, ‘It’s where you drill oil at sea.’ And he goes, ‘It should be a sewer.’”
