Catfish host Nev Schulman is an expert at dealing people who hide their identities behind computer screens. But the MTV star, 33, admitted he was caught off guard by a message of criticism left by a stranger on a post about his daughter to his Facebook.

“I recently posted a video of my daughter,” Schulman told Us Weekly. “It’s just a really cute, simple little video and one person commented ‘Isn’t she a little old to be in diapers? American parents don’t potty train kids.’ It’s crazy because she’s only like 20 months, which is well considered early!” (According to a 1999 study published in the Journal of American Pediatrics, “There is no right age to toilet train a child” and “in general, starting before age 2 is not recommended.”)

Schulman was pleased when “hundreds of people” came to his defense. “I didn’t even have to say anything,” he told Us.

The producer and his wife, Laura Perlongo, who will celebrate their one year wedding anniversary on July 22, welcomed baby Cleo in October 2016.  He gushed over his daughter to Us in in August 2017. “My face actually hurts from smiling so much,” the proud dad said at the time. “I’m like sore from all the funny faces and smiling!”

The couple has since  begun the potty training process. Schulman recently shared a silly snap of Cleo doing her business while reading a book about mermaids. He captioned the photo: “They grow up so fast.”
