Real Housewives of New York star Alex McCord stands out in the cast for her quirky fashion, outrageous husband Simon van Kempen, and unusual approach to parenting.
Now, in a new book, the Brooklyn-dwelling mother of two boys (ages 6 and 4) admits that she imbibed alcohol while pregnant.
"Throughout my pregnancy, I gave into every craving I felt," she writes in Little Kids Big City: Tales From a Real House in New York City, in an excerpt published in the New York Daily News. "When I wanted to have a drink, I did."
Alex, 36, wanted a drink on the night that she went into labor with her son Francois, — so she sipped on champagne while Simon brought her to the hospital.
In the parenting book co-authored by her husband, the couple also add that they took son Johan, then just 48 hours old, to Manhattan hotspot Mercer Kitchen so they could have cocktails.
The inseparable pair do leave their kids at home sometimes, of course. "We're very lucky that we're able to pay our nanny extra for two evenings a week to go out," Alex writes.
On a recent episode of her Bravo show, Alex broke into tears when mocked by fellow socialites Countess LuAnn Delessepps and Jill Zarin — who were aghast that young Francois climbed up the leg of a stranger during a party.
