Philip is best known for his role as prosecutor Peter Stone, which he originated on Chicago P.D. in 2016 before continuing as the character on Chicago Justice and Chicago Med. After NBC canceled Chicago Justice in 2017, Philip brought Peter over to SVU following the resignation of Raúl Esparza’s long-running character, Assistant District Attorney Rafael Barba.

“One of the things that [former Chicago Justice and current SVU showrunner] Michael [Chernuchin] and I spoke about was diving into Peter Stone more,” Philip told One Chicago Center in February 2018. “Even though we had so much time with Peter Stone in Justice, we didn’t really get to find out much about him. Ironically over here on SVU, we have more time to dive into who he is. He’s not taking on all these big cases; he has more time to do some other things in his life, and the audience in turn gets to see that.”
