Selma Blair Opens Up About Hitting ‘Rock Bottom’ As a Single Mom

Selma Blair’s son Arthur was only 14 months old when she split from his fashion designer dad, Jason Bleick, in 2012.

“I did not have a support system. I was an older, tired, single mom,” the 45-year-old actress told Us Weekly and other reporters on Saturday, November 18, at the Alliance of Moms’ Raising Baby event in L.A. “As much as I loved my child, I was really lost . . . lost for for, like, four-and-a-half years. I kind of hit rock bottom.”

It wasn’t until Blair found a community of mom friends that she started to feel like herself again.

“I shut myself off from everyone, and it wasn’t until I accepted some help that I could just flourish as a mom,” she revealed, adding that she found comfort in knowing “I don’t have have to do this alone.”

Blair and Arthur, 6, are in a good place these days. Not only does the Cruel Intentions star have a support network, but she’s in a happy relationship with Dead Ant director Ron Carlson, who is dad of Chloe, 8.

“Arthur and Chloe are best friends. Best friends. Love each other,” Blair told Us last month. “They build forts out of real tree stuff. And they love when we go camping. But more than anything, they really just love presents! They both equally love presents more than anyone I’ve ever met besides me!”

The Alliance of Moms (AOM) seeks to support young parents and their children, while helping to end the intergenerational effects of foster care.
