Proud new parents! After welcoming their first child together on Friday, Feb. 14, Simon Cowell and girlfriend Lauren Silverman left Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City with baby Eric on Sunday, Feb. 16. The couple smiled at photographers as they walked out with their newborn son resting in a car seat.
First-time dad Cowell, 54, held his adorable baby boy in the carrier while also helping Silverman to a car. After giving birth only two days earlier, NYC socialite Silverman looked beautiful leaving the hospital in a gray sweater, black winter coat and skinny black pants.
Immediately after his son was born, the X Factor judge shared adorable photos of little Eric, named after Cowell’s late father, on Twitter. “Now you can see how very handsome little Eric is,” he captioned one closeup photo. In a second sweet snapshot, Cowell cradled the newborn and wrote, “I never knew how much love and pride I would feel.”
Us Weekly exclusively revealed that Cowell and Silverman were expecting back in July 2013. At the time, Silverman was still married to Cowell’s friend Andrew Silverman, but the two divorced in August 2013. Together they share 7-year-old son Adam.
In a radio interview with Ryan Seacrest back in September, Cowell confessed that he hadn’t planned on being a dad. “I genuinely never thought [me being a Dad] was going to happen,” he said. “Partly because I was scared of who I was going to have kids with . . . [but] Lauren and I get along really well and once I got used to the idea I thought, ‘I think this is going to be very good.'”
Indeed, Cowell appears to have quickly taken to fatherhood and family life. “The last three days have been incredible,” he tweeted Feb. 16. “Eric Lauren [dogs] sqiddly and diddly all happy.”
