With Roseanne set to return to ABC in March, Soleil Moon Frye thinks it’s time for a Punky Brewster revival.
“I just love that there’s nostalgia going on,” Moon Frye told Us Weekly during a joint interview with her daughter Jagger, 9, on Tuesday, January 16. “We’re ready for a reboot.”

And Moon Frye knows exactly who she would cast as the freckle-faced, mismatched title character that launched her career in 1984: Jagger! And it’s safe to say the middle-schooler, who calls herself “Punky Jr.,” would say “yes” without any hesitation.
“I am ready! I am ready to be Punky,” Jagger told Us. “Punky and I are very similar because she’s never afraid to show who she really is and that is me. We’re both really unique.”

The 41-year-old, who also shares Poet, 12, Lyric, 3, and Story, 20 months, with her producer husband Jason Goldberg has ideas about where Punky would be today. “I think she’s a fashion designer maybe. Possibly has a lot of kids that’s she’s taken in. Maybe she’s adopted some kids. A lot of possibilities with that Punky,” the Nutrisystem ambassador told Us. Jagger however, suspects she’s an astronaut.
Even though it’s been 29 years since the NBC sitcom went off the air, Moon Frye remembers hanging out with the cast of Golden Girls and Gimme a Break! like it was yesterday. “You had all these shows together and we’d all be singing on stage together,” she told Us. “We just had a good time.”

That’s why Moon Frye will never roll her eyes if she’s walking down the street and someone calls out, “Hey Punky!”
Says the former Sabrina, the Teenage Witch star: “People can call me Punky till I’m 90 years old and I will be totally happy!”
