Lovin’ it!

A moving Taiwanese McDonald’s commercial — featuring a young man coming out as gay to his father inside the restaurant — has gone viral.

In the 90-second ad— posted to the McDonald’s Taiwan Facebook page on March 4 — the dad pounds his fist on the table and storms off, leaving his son alone and devastated. On the table sits a cup of coffee on which the son has written “I like boys.”

When the father returns, he picks up his boy’s drink and scrawls “I accept that you like boys,” over the original message. Both are choking back tears.

“Let there be more warmth in conversations,” a voice says at the end of the clip.

Not everyone supports the global chain’s heartwarming message of acceptance and unconditional love.

Chang Shou-yi, secretary general of the Alliance of Taiwan Religious Groups for the Protection of Family is trying to launch a boycott.

“Even if you want to just take a leak at a McDonald’s bathroom, you can’t help but feel polluted,” Shou-yi told Taiwanese outlets, per AdWeek.

In a statement to the press, Shou-yi wrote that the Alliance “does not approve of the ideological stand behind the advertisement.” He added: “Because McDonald’s frequented by many children, it is especially important to oppose the promotion of same-sex behavior.”

Gay marriage is still illegal in Taiwan, but female president elect Tsai Ing-wen has said, “In the face of love, everyone is equal.”
