Veteran moms know the drill: As soon as you sit down to eat, your baby decides he needs to be fed. And that’s exactly what happened when Briar Lusia Mcqueen ventured out for eggs and toast with her newborn son, Jaxon.
“Today was the first time I went out for breakfast alone with my 8-week-old son,” the 22-year-old from Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, wrote in a May 30 Facebook post that has since gone viral. “I had just received my breakfast and hot chocolate when Jaxon started crying wanting his booby, so of course I fed him.”
When Mcqueen noticed an older woman standing at the table, her first thought was that the stranger was going to reprimand her for nursing in public.
“I was scared, thinking she was gonna tell me to put my boob away,” the stay-at-home mother wrote. “Instead, she starts cutting up my breakfast for me and said, 'What a good mama you are. We can’t have your food getting cold, can we?’”
Added Mcqueen: “I honestly could have cried. Loveliest lady EVER!!”
“I’ve read so many negative stories about women breast-feeding in public,” Mcqueen, a former cafe manager, tells Us Weekly. “I was afraid that it would happen to me too because I don’t cover him while I’m feeding him.”
The post has been liked 283,000 times and shared 10,911 times.
“I thanked her over and over,” Mcqueen tells Us. “I was so overwhelmed by her kindness.”
