It’s been quite a ride! In the wake of Blac Chyna’s recent trademark issue with the Kardashians, Us Weekly is taking a look back at the complicated relationship between the Rob & Chyna star and reality TV’s royal family.
In case you are unfamiliar with how Angela Renee White became Blac Chyna — who is now hoping to trademark the name Angela Renee Kardashian ahead of her wedding to fiancé (and father of her baby girl, Dream) Rob Kardashian — here is an abridged version of her Cinderella story.
Chyna, 28, was once a dancer at Miami’s famous King of Diamonds gentlemen’s club. The Washington, D.C., native’s rise to fame kicked off in 2010 after Drake name-dropped her in his hit single “Miss Me.” The shout-out sparked major buzz in the hip-hop community, and in November 2010, Chyna was asked to play Nicki Minaj’s stunt double in Kanye West’s “Monster” music video.
In 2011, she was handpicked to be the leading lady in Tyga’s “Rack City” video by the rapper himself. The pair struck up a romance and welcomed a son, King Cairo, in October 2012. The hip-hop star, now 27, eventually introduced his then-fiancée to the Kardashian-Jenner clan, who he had been friends with before he and Chyna met.
As Keeping Up With the Kardashians fans will recall, T-Raww performed at Kendall Jenner’s 16th birthday bash in 2011. Around the same time, Chyna and Kim Kardashian ignited a friendship and became inseparable for months. They were frequently spotted running everyday errands together, such as grabbing lunch, shopping and working out. The former stripper also became close with Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick. As Kourtney, 37, revealed on this past season of KUWTK, she and Disick, 33, would often go on double dates with Chyna and Tyga back in the day. The model and the musician also attended Kim’s June 2014 nuptials to West, 39, in Italy.
However, Chyna’s relationship with the Kardashian women imploded in 2014 when Tyga dumped Chyna in 2014 to date Kylie Jenner, the youngest (she was just 17 at the time) daughter of momager Kris Jenner. Once the two became serious, the three eldest Kardashians took Kylie’s side and cut the cord on their friendship with Chyna.
During a February 2015 interview, the Lashed Bar entrepreneur’s BFF Amber Rose — West’s ex — spoke out about Tyga and Kylie’s eyebrow-raising relationship. “Kylie’s a baby,” Rose, 33, told Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club. “She needs to go to bed at 7 o’clock and relax. It’s ridiculous. Tyga should be ashamed of himself. That’s how I feel, for sure. He has a beautiful woman and a baby that he left for a 16-year-old who just turned 17.”
The dis prompted Khloé Kardashian to clap back on Twitter in defense of Kylie. “‘I was a stripper since I was 15 years old,’ Amber Rose told Foxx,” Khloé tweeted, quoting an old Rose interview in which she revealed her former career as a dancer. “Please don’t worry about my sister who has a career and her s–t together at ONLY 17. People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones … Please stop talking about us in interviews mama. None of us talk about you.”
Though he remained tight-lipped about his involvement with Kylie for months, Tyga seemingly confirmed their relationship status when he posted a photo of the teen Lip Kit queen on Instagram and wrote: “Certain things catch your eye, but only few capture the heart.”
Not long after, an enraged Chyna put Tyga on blast by posting screenshots of a particularly damning text exchange, in which the rapper seemingly begged his ex to take him back. “I want to be with you. I want to be positive. I want to be a family again,” he allegedly wrote. “I want to start this friendship. Relationship.”
Naturally, this prompted a social media feud between Chyna and Kylie. The two women frequently threw digs at one another in thinly veiled Instagram posts. Kylie flaunted the pricey gifts Tyga gave her, while Chyna mocked Kylie’s large lips, among other jabs.
The tables turned in January 2016, when the video vixen and Rob, 29, went public with their relationship, a revelation that caused a media firestorm and much skepticism from the entire Kardashian-Jenner crew. Up until they started dating, the Arthur George sock designer had stayed out of the spotlight as he battled depression and weight gain.
In May, the unlikely couple announced they were expecting a baby together. (They welcomed daughter Dream on November 11.)
Despite months and months of bad blood, Kylie extended an olive branch to Chyna in April when she posted a bathroom Snapchat selfie that read, “When we’ve been best friends this whole time.”
Though the two women made up, it was not smooth sailing for the Kardashian-Jenner clan and the video vixen. In September, Rob blasted his sisters for allegedly not inviting his fiancée to a baby shower they were throwing for him, and refused to show up at the last minute. “Didn’t invite the mother of my child to a baby shower you were all trying to throw for me,” he tweeted at the time. “You all must have lost your damn minds.” He even went so far as to tweet Kylie’s phone number.
As documented on KUWTK, the family made up not long after, but now, not even a year after Kylie’s peace offering, the social media maven’s family is at it again with Chyna. As previously reported, mom of two Chyna attempted to trademark her married name to obtain sole control over the use of her moniker for advertising, personal appearances and promoting brands.
In documents filed on December 1, Kim, Khloé and Kourtney’s companies — Kimsaprincess Inc., Khlomoney Inc. and 2Die4Kourt, respectively — are opposing Chyna’s trademark. They argue in papers that the Kardashian sisters’ companies would “suffer irreparable injury to their reputation and goodwill if the opposed mark is allowed to register.”
An insider previously told Us Weekly that the E! personalities are hoping to find resolution with Chyna peacefully. “Chyna filing and using their last name takes some time and discussion,” the source told Us. “They are hoping to resolve it amicably, the girls, because they do love Chyna. The girls are just protecting their interests because that is their brand. It’s a complicated business issue.”
