He did not need a little sweetness in his life! Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine was sugar-bombed on Wednesday, May 6, outside the West Hollywood set of Jimmy Kimmel Live. The “Sugar” hitmaker was signing autographs for fans outside when a man suddenly tossed a bag of powdered sugar on the star, coating Levine’s face and part of his blue and gold printed sweater.
Multiple videos showed police apprehending the suspect while Levine stepped back and brushed off the powdery mass of sugar on his jacket and face. “What just happened?” one girl asked in a clip, while another person yelled, “F—ing murder him!” More footage showed Levine stepping away from the scene and managing to keep his cool, though he looked clearly upset. At one point, Behati Prinsloo‘s husband even threw down his sweater, and showed Levine walking away in a white T-shirt with powdered sugar still lining his face.
Officer Liliana Preciado of the Los Angeles Police Department told Us Weekly on Thursday that the suspect was arrested. “Yesterday at around 8:00, off-duty officers working outside the Jimmy Kimmel studios observed Mr. Navid Farsi throwing powdered sugar at Mr. Levine as he was exiting and giving autographs to fans standing outside to the rear of the location. He threw the powdered sugar at Mr. Levine,” the statement to Us read. “It covered most of his upper body and also covered other people that were standing nearby so a total of 5 people that were covered with this powdered sugar. Officers took him into custody and they took him into custody on a private person’s arrest, a private citizen’s arrest. He was booked for battery and he is being held on a $100,000 bail. He has not been released.”
Officer Preciado told Us that Levine wasn’t the only one affected by the sugar-bomb. “There were 5 victims. I don’t know,” Preciado said. “Once we book him it’s up to the attorneys to decide what’s going to happen so we don’t get involved in that. All I do know is that he was booked and he’s still being held in jail.”
A source, meanwhile, told The Hollywood Reporter that the apparent prankster was the same person who threw a rock last week at Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Clearly, the use of powdered sugar in this situation was not a coincidence.
