Update: Peterson surrendered and was booked at the Montgomery County jail on Saturday, Sept. 13, according to ABC News. He posted bond for $15,000 and flew back to Minneapolis.
It's been a tough week for the NFL. Just four days after Baltimore Ravens player Ray Rice was cut from his team and suspended from the league in a shocking domestic abuse scandal, news broke on Friday, Sept. 12, that Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has been indicted in a child abuse case, according to various reports by TMZ, CBS, and other outlets.
Details are murky on the case, as there has been no official word from Peterson, 29, nor his attorney. There are conflicting reports on the age and identity of the young male victim, as well as his relationship to the football star, who has been playing for the Vikings since 2007.
The team released a statement on Friday, reading, "The Vikings are in the process of gathering information regarding the legal situation involving Adrian Peterson. At this time, we will defer further questions to Adrian’s attorney Rusty Hardin."
While Peterson did not comment on the case itself, he was present on social media on Friday afternoon.
He tweeted an image of a text box, which read: "People understand that if you are on God's course and supposed to that position and man decides to remove you know that God will remove everyone to place you rightfully! You matter! Its your season! Weapons may form but won't prosper! God has you covered don't stress of worry!"
