Al Roker’s daughter Leila is officially engaged.
Leila, 26, shared the news via Instagram on Sunday, March 2. “8 years ago, I moved to Paris 🇫🇷, 7 years ago I met my person and best friend 💖, and 2 days ago, that person took me on the most amazing surprise trip to Venice 🇮🇹 to ask me to spend the rest of our lives together 💍,” she wrote in her caption alongside several sweet snaps where she showed off her ring and posed with new fiance Sylvain Gricourt.
Leila, a freelance journalist, had moved to France in 2017 to attend the American University of Paris.
Gricourt, for his part, also shared the happy news via his Instagram on Sunday, writing, “Just two days ago I put a ring on her finger, and that’s the best thing I did in the last 33 years 💍❤️ .” He finished his caption with a sweet message in French, which translates to: “what do you say about spending the next 33 together, and all the ones after that?”
Leila’s mother, ABC News journalist Deborah Roberts, commented on her daughter’s post, writing, “We could not be happier and more joyful!!!! Welcome to the family Sylvain! Now let’s plan a wedding!”
Al celebrated the news with his own post via Instagram on Sunday. “Well, it is now official,” he captioned a series of photos of daughter Leila and Gricourt.
“@gricourt.thegreat has proposed to my little girl, @leilaroker in the romantic city of Venice,” Al’s caption continued “We could not be happier, and look forward to planning for these two wonderful young folks coming together.”
Al shares Leila and son Nick, 22, with Roberts, who he married in 1995. He is also a dad to Courtney, who he welcomed in 1987 with his ex-wife Alice Bell. The pair were married from 1984 to 1994.
Al and Roberts traveled to Paris to celebrate their wedding anniversary in 2021, a trip that also allowed them to catch up with Leila. The family had dinner together at a restaurant that offered a gorgeous view of the Eiffel Tower.
“Beyond fortunate to be able to spend our #anniversary with our girl in #Paris Viva la #passsanitaire,” the Today show host captioned a photo of the meal at the time.
Al, of course, has no problem praising his children. In April 2019, he spoke highly of his son Nick, who he revealed to be “somewhere on the spectrum” while speaking exclusively with Us Weekly.
“He’s one of those people that doesn’t let anything stand in his way,” Roker told Us at the time. “I don’t think he acknowledges whatever issues he’s got. ‘I’m just going to do this.’ [It’s] so great.”
