Everything’s grand! Ariana Grande dished on her romance with backup dancer and longtime friend Ricky Alvarez in an interview in the latest issue of Billboard magazine.
“We’re happy. I’m a very happy girl. I have a healthy life right now, and I think that’s all anyone cares to know. The end,” the 22-year-old singer told the mag. “I’m much better at making songs than telling people things,” she said of what she has gone through in the last year.
The “Focus” songstress was first linked to Alvarez last summer — around the same time he appeared in the infamous “I hate America” donut-licking surveillance footage with Grande, but the pop star’s close friend and cowriter of six years, Victoria Monet, reveals he’s actually a pretty chivalrous guy.
Monet added that Alvarez inspired the name of the track “Moonlight” on Grande’s new album, Dangerous Woman, which was released on Friday, May 20. “That’s what Ricky called her one night. I think it was after their first kiss,” she told Billboard. “He wanted to kiss her for a long time, and she was really impressed. He’s such a gentleman, and the song is a great little bookmark of the start of their relationship.”
Previously, Grande dated Big Sean for eight months, but they called it quits in April 2015 due to conflicting tour schedules. She told V magazine later that year that the breakup “wasn’t that hard for me, because we were friends. So it’s chill.”
