Wake him up when it's all over. Beloved Swedish DJ Avicii is currently in a Miami hospital, his rep tells Us Weekly. The 24-year-old, whose real name is Tim Bergling, was hospitalized Thursday, March 27, after experiencing "severe abdominal pains, nausea, and fever," his rep says.
"He has been diagnosed as having a blocked gall bladder and is currently being evaluated for a potential surgery to remove his gall bladder," Avicii's rep adds of the Swedish superstar. "He has had to cancel all his commitments for the week."
The DJ canceled a show Thursday night at the SLS South Beach hotel, which prompted questions on whether or not he would be able to perform at the ULTRA Music Festival Saturday, March 29. "At the hospital. Extremely bummed about missing my show at the Avicii Hotel. My brother @Alesso is stepping up and covering for me," Avicii tweeted Thursday night.
The rep explains that due to his current condition, he will no longer be headlining the ULTRA Music Festival Saturday.
"I was with Tim at the hospital last night and this morning," his manager Ash Pournouri tells Us. "He was really disappointed that he wasn't able to come to the AVICII Hotel at SLS and perform for all his fans. He really appreciated all the hard work done by SLS, Ushuaia, At Night and SBE in creating the space. It was frustrating for him not to have seen it. And of course, ULTRA has been so important to us for so many years, it’s a big letdown not being able to play."
This is not Avicii's first health scare. He told GQ in March 2013 that he had actually cut down on his consumption of alcohol after a pancreatitis scare. "You are traveling around, you live in a suitcase, you get to this place, there's free alcohol everywhere — it's sort of weird if you don't drink," he told the mag. "I didn't expect it to last… I was so nervous. I just got into a habit, because you rely on that encouragement and self-confidence you get from alcohol, and then you get dependent on it."
Avicii is best known for his catchy electronic hits like "Wake Me Up," "Fade Into Darkness," and "Levels." The Swedish told Us in his 25 Things You Don't Know About Me that although he's 24, "I feel 25 from everything I've experienced."
He added, "Everyone says they have the coolest fans, but I actually do."
